Is your FX9 Reliable?

We would hope that most gun owners would recognize that a brand new 9mm pcc blowback operated firearm that is tight and drier than a popcorn fart would require the minimal field strip and oiling prior to use. Then there is the added advantage of actually reading the manufactures and distributors recommendations to ensure performance.

We don't need no steenkin' recommendations! (You're quite right, of course).

You’ll want to check with either the importer ... Wolverine , or your local gun store on that one. As to why they are as much as $300 more than a Ruger PC-9 I would have to imagine it is because Freedom Ordnance went out of their way to make this an AR derivative with similar “ manual of arms “ and compatibility with some AR components for customization. It sure doesn’t hurt that these are Glock pistol mag compatible making them a new addition to the pcc / pistol combo genre. Those two features combined with it’s non-restricted status was more than worth it to me , imho. Your mileage may vary.

I’m thinking of replacing the trigger for the Fx9 but on a budget. Any recommendations?
Debating between ALG ACT and Hiperfire EDT heavy gunner. Both had good reviews and pretty cheap. Any thoughts/experience ???

I test fired my FX9 Sunday in -12 weather. The gun was dry out of the box. I lubbed the trigger group with balistol and greased the bolt with slipstream grease and lots of it. I put 170 rounds through the gun with zero issue. The first 50 rounds where 124gr Xmetal 121PF hand loads. The remainder was 147gr xmetal hand loads at about 130pf. OAL was 1.010.
Other than greasing the bolt I polished the anodizing off of the feed ramp starting at 400 grit and moving to 800 grit.

Not only was the gun 100% reliable for all 170 rounds at about 10-12m I was putting all the rounds in a group the size of the quarter off hand.

Took my new Fx-9 out this morning. Liberally lubed the bolt and charging handle with G96, 250 rounds only one stoppage/stovepipe that may have been from me not having it shouldered firmly.

Overall its really a fun gun to blast with

Have had mine a couple months now.
1500 rounds and no issues. Running reloads 124 gr campro. 4.2 Gr tg. Have run blazer 115 and 124 gr rounds as well all ran fine using Magpul GlockP mags and the mag that came with it. Only issue I had was when I first got the rifle fist 100 rounds it I had a couple Feed issues and 1 Jam related to my reloading and bad round that was way out of spec. My fault because I didn't QC check that ammunition. The gun was fine.

So far I've put 600 rounds through mine, 150 ish in an IPSC on Sunday. So far the only malfunction was a failure to feed during the second 170 rnds.

The "secret squirrel" fix seems to have done the trick on mine for the extraction/ejection issue.

What is the secret squirrel fix?

Had mine out on the weekend and it was a jammer! Got maybe 150-200 rounds through it, but still had lots of spent shell/new round double jams! Factory mags and KCI mags. X-Metal rounds, can't remember the bullet weight, but they were the red polymer coated bullets. Started to get a bit better at the end, Thinking the mags need to be worked in better as well. I think the springs are too tight and slowing down the bolt too much with fully loaded mags.

My FX-9 showed up today.
After unboxing and a general touchy feely session I stripped it down and wiped out the inside of the receiver and wiped down the bolt.
Lightly oiled the bolt and charge handle and put it back together. I also swapped out the A2 grip for a MIAD I had in the parts box. When buying grips you need to buy one without beavertail.
I went over all fasteners and didn't find anything loose.

Installed my Aimpoint T-1

Went out in the back yard to function test and zero the sight.
40 rounds so far with four failures. The four was actually only one but it took me pushing the bullet into the case four times before figuring out what was going on.
I couldn't see it from the ejection port with my brass catcher on so took longer to fix than it should have.
I pushed out the rear pin and opened the rifle thinking maybe the feed ramp had broke off or come loose but instead found a piece of spent brass was lodged in front of the chamber and was pushing the new round out of alignment. Once that was out of the way it was back to perfect function.

So zero to fourty rounds saw one failure. Not bad but not enough to really make a solid evaluation.

As for accuracy, I was shooting three at a time then adjusting the optic to set it about an inch low at 25 yards. Groups were around an inch or so at 25yds. I'm tempted to throw my 1-4 on it just to print a couple groups at 50 or 100. My eyes can pepper the gongs with a dot sight but I'm not overly precise with it since I have mild astigmatism and the dot goes a little oval on me.

Ammo was 115gr Campro over 4.5gr Tightgroup. All rounds fired without the brass catcher landed about six feet out and between 2:00 and 3:00.
That was the end of my 115gr batch, next up will be the 1000 Campro 124gr over 4.1gr of Tightgroup I put together last month.

Magazines used were the factory supplied 10/18 Korean made one, a Glock 10/10, a KCI 10/17, and a Glock 10/30.
I also slipped a few more mags of the above brands in just to see if any were tighter than others and most dropped free but a couple were a little snug, not tight, just didn't drop free with the button. I've got some Magpul brand G17 mags as well I'll take out with me next time.

I think the only mods coming will be to add a couple more sling attachment points.

Just went out and ran another 60 through it.
One stovepipe stoppage. This time I ran without the brass catcher.

So far I'm happy with this little carbine.
Magpul brand mag ran 10 and locked back, no issues.

Are all the new ones coming with this upgrade, or are we supposed to just roll the dice and request the upgrade after if we have issues?

I really want one of these, but am on the fence after seeing some of the reviews.

Yes, mine arrived in Feb and the bolt mod was already done.

Since my last post I've shot two outdoor steel challenge matches in -15 and colder weather. I shot about 300 more rounds with zero issues. I also laid down my fastest runs on steel ever with many runs under 3 seconds. I can't wait to add a match trigger and comp.

I'm using 147gr RN xmetal bullets loaded with mixed brass and 2.8gr of titegroup. It likes the mags it came with which are aftermarket glock stick mags and a pinned 17 round mag. It also likes magpul glock mags but not factory glock 10 round mags. They don't lock back.
I clean it before every match and lube it with ballistol. Initially I lubed it with sliptream grease and oil for the break in period. Since the last two matches have been outside in the cold I used ballistol rather than grease which can thicken in the cold.
