308 and some weren't converted and are still in 8mm
There used to be new wood and new parts for them at one time
There is also new made 8mm and 22 Israeli mausers by
FN. The FN mausers were converted to 308
There was 1000 purpose built 22 and half were sent to South Africa by Israel

The Norwegians re barreled K98s in 30-06 and marked them "7.62". Don't worry, I just learned that last week.

The Norwegians marked them in a completely different manner. Here's another bit of information for you that you may find confusing. The Norwegians also chambered 98 Mausers in 7.62x51 Nato and used the same stampings they did for those chambered in 7.62x63 (30-06)

Not to hijack the thread, but my Norwegian K98 also has "30-06" stamped on the barrel by the German dealer that exported my rifle to Canada. The Isreali's are nice post war refurbs, but the Norwegian's are really in a class of their own as they were modified so well.

Certainly not my experience. Isreali mausers I have owned and examined have been rough, hastily cobbled together, parts bin guns. They are certainly not ‘silk purses’ .. and I no longer own one. OTOH I would be pleased to have a representative example of a Norwegian ‘30/06’ conversion.

Nice Mauser! Great receiver markings. I have three Israeli 7.62's. I had four, but sold a real nice one to a young fellow at the Calgary show. I still have a matching FN. I also have one of those FN trainer 22's, like new.

Thanks for posting and sharing pics! :)

I'm moving to Europe in a year, wait for it, 95% of my collection (guns, gear and ammo) will be liquidated. I have a gem of a Norwegian with a mint bore that shoots lights out.

I wish you the best on your move to Europe. I consider you a very prominent CGNer. I remember you having posts with really nice surplus rifles.
