Thats true, but by the time you add the stock, the mauser action and re-barrel it, you're up to around 3k

Don't take this as anything certain, however, given that the original 8mm Mauser has more power behind it than .308, the action can definitely handle it and I wouldn't be afraid of using .308 personally.I know some 7.62's can't use 308, but as these are 8mm mauser converted to 7.62x51 are they safely capable of using 308 ?
308 and some weren't converted and are still in 8mm
There used to be new wood and new parts for them at one time
There is also new made 8mm and 22 Israeli mausers by
FN. The FN mausers were converted to 308
There was 1000 purpose built 22 and half were sent to South Africa by Israel
