FASTEST and EASIEST way to mount a scope on your rifle is to go with a Long Eye Relief (LER) scope and either a B-Square or an S&K Insta-Mount. Personally, I prefer the S&K.
These mounts replace the rear-sight leaf of your rifle in just a few minutes; the rear-sight leaf just pops right out when you know how to do it. Then you mount the scope-mount, attach your rings and scope, sight-in the scope and you're ready to go blast Mister MOOOOse.
The mount is expensive, yes, but you can put it on by yourself in a few minutes. You don't need a gunsmith. And you can move the mount, scope and all, over to another rifle, any time you want to at all. If you have the rifle drilled and tapped, it will cost you just as much as the no-gunsmith mount.... and you can't shift drilled-and-tapped holes around from rifle to rifle.
The mount for the 98 fits something like 50 different models of rifle, all built on the original 1898 action; your Israeli is one of these.
I know that MilArm in Edmonton usually has these in stock and I see that TRADEX in Montreal (tan button at the top of this page) has one in stock right now at $32.50, which is just over HALF of what a drill-and-tap job would cost. Their service is fast and friendly.
Have fun with the Israeli 98!
