Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

I got through with my call in to them yesterday.

I was inquiring about my LTATT since it's been a few weeks and my LTATT was about to expire. The lady on the other end said that they were working on the May 31 applications. I guess it'll be awhile before I get it.

I'll just keep calling for a statt everytime I want to go to the range.

And that is why we all have to wait upto 6 weeks for ltatt etc. I'm not saying its your fault I'm saying the system is facked. Quite upsetting really...

I honestly can't understand how they have THAT many restricted firearms to review?? Maybe they are spending all their time shredding LGR documents??

Make it as cumbersome as possible so you tell your friends so they won't get any restricteds. People will question why bother. Imagine the same registration to sign up for organized sports haha crazy stuff

A simple call to the CFO in Edmonton will get you results in 15 min. by fax provided you have proof of club membership to an approved pistol range or you must provide valid evidence of being a bona-fide collector. Something tells me the person applying in this instance does not have all the ducks in a row, so to speak. If that is not the case then the CFO of BC needs a good nut-tug. Good luck, Bob.

Alberta and BC are worlds apart in this game.

Nice that you get response in Edmonton.

You would not feel that way if you were in BC.

This has nothing to do with 'ducks in order'.

It has everything to do with CFO staff that have, since the elimination of the Long Gun registry, chosen to process Authorizations and transfers over 10 times longer that they did when they had the additional workload of the LGR.

You figure it out. Same thing is happening in Ontario, and to a certain degree in Quebec.

If I chose to work the way the BC CFO is working, I would have found my ass on the unemployment line after the first week.

I have not heard a single good comment about BC's CFO.

With all respect how in heck could they be behind?

They are doing virtually nothing now compared to before and are further behind than ever.

I bought a restricted off an individual on June 12th. He started the transfer process that day. I called the CFC on the 13th to do my end. The file was then sent to the BC CFO on the 13th. I called on the 14th to see if there was anyway to get the statt by the weekend and left that in the BC CFO voice mail. I got a call back from a fellow named Simon in the afternoon of the 14th and he said my STATT was in Canada post and the transfer was complete. I couldn't believe it! Two days!

I wonder why the inconsistancies? Doesn't seem to make much sense. But perhaps the processing of LTATT's are different than transfers.

I just wrote this to my MP

Hi C###x,
I am writing you today to express my concern with the Chief firearms office of BC. They are telling me that there are 4-6 weeks waits in their processing of long term authorization to transport permits. This seems a bit strange since there is no longer a requirement to register non-restricted firearms. Their work load has been more than cut in half. I have many friends from other provinces and also many from BC who have had their LTATT and restricted firearms transfers completed in a much more reasonable time frame. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have same day Transfers and LTATT in under a week. I would have no problem at all with it taking a couple weeks for the LTATT but 4-6 weeks is not acceptable. If I worked that slowly I would be fired and I would expect to be. Can you look into this matter for me or let me know who I should contact to place a formal complaint. I have paid all the fees jumped through all the hoops in order to get my firearms license. I am paying for range membership fees and have paid for my firearm which they tell me I can not even pick up until the LTATT is completed. It has been sitting with them for 2 weeks already and that should be ample time. I'm sure I am not the only one who has complained about this.

Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
D###xx W###x
