Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

Mind posting a link? I can't seem to find it. Possibly buried in the 'Shorten Wait Times' thread?

Yup that's the one. Just jump towards the 575's and there is good info there and people with the same or worse expiernces. Even some ideas on how to contact MP's when wait times get ridiculous. Sometimes it has help for people as I've read. But it takes some digging to find it as there are SO many posts lol.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

If you think you are not getting the level of service you deserved from a BC provincial employe... try contacting the BC ombudsman

The BC CFO is a massive joke. Backlog, backlog, backlog... Sick and tired of these nonsense excuses. Funny how they didn't have that problem when the long gun registry was still in place...

Does a backlog somehow justify that now one apparently needs "proof of a range membership to prove that you have a reason to own guns" to renew a license?!

No.

Made up nonsense and flat out lies. These people need to be fired and kept away from any public service jobs. Pathetic behaviour and really nothing one can do.

Ombudsman doesn't give a hoot, MP will pretend to care... Then again, if every firearms owner in BC who has had issues with these people would write him a letter, maybe he would actually care.

I mean, who do you complain to? The RCMP? About the RCMP? Yeah, that'll go over well.

Hey All,
I'm trying to help a friend of mine who has been waiting for over a year now for his PAL. We did our course the same time and submitted our applications the same day (Nov 16). after the 3 month mark we both started calling every 3-4 weeks in May I finally received my PAL but he is still waiting. I will mention that when we both applied we both checked the box regarding depression or mental health issues (because we both wanted to be completely transparent and honest when applying). We also both wrote letters explaining why we checked the box and provided references to our respective medical providers if they wanted more info. For myself my badgering must have worked because they finally called my wife and it was completed an hour after they talked to her (she was the only one they called).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could possibly help my friend out as it is almost feeling like he is being discriminated against because he said yes to having depression issues in his past even though he was open about everything.

its not discrimination they take their sweet time to ensure call it red tape.

No issues with my application but it did take 4 months from start to end. and i think it was 7-10 days for my first restricted transfer later its been a piece of cake and so far i havent had any delay in chatting with them.
Not sure what info your priv to from your friend but if its taking time there has to be a loop in the process that you might not be aware of or being told off.

Tell your friend to do this:
Fill out this form and take it to your local court to file a court date. This will immediately get the cfo's attention. He will call you, tell him that you prefer not to go to court but have been waiting forever. Ask him what you can do to get your license, he should instruct you on what to do.

Here's the paper to fill out- just put in refusal to issue made by BC CFO.

This has worked for many people. I highly recommend it if he has been waiting an exorbitant amount of time.

Cheers

Hey Liberty.357,
What section should he mark down as he has not been refused he is just waiting for them to finalize it which they have not done in over a year.

Cheers

NSRiar, His application went in the same as mine and as for info I served with him for years and we are tighter than brothers I know more than I should LOL.. The biggest problem is that the BC CFO has repeatedly brushed him off with no attempt to contact the 6+ references and medical professionals he has allowed them to contact. When he submitted a complaint to the email that he was provided he heard no response.( He has sent an email every month for the last 3 months) and he only calls once a month. We are going to try faxing them a letter to see if they respond. I can see how he is frustrated and I do understand that you need to check the boxes but when your not even looking and contacting references there's something that seems just a bit fishy

I can only feel the pain bro i guess court application would be next step if nothing is being returned. Hopefully it gets resolved.

Just fill it out as a refusal to issue. When you go to court to get a date just say it was a refusal. The paper doesn't need to be filled perfect, just get it in, tell them it was refused. Honestly when it's taken this long it will be such a relief for him to get a direct response from the cfo the day after he files the paper.

Be prepared to have to provide supporting documents and referrals. I'm not sure what all you'll have to do and what your friends case is specifically. So long as your friend has a doctor that'll vouch for him and he doesn't have an uber bad history, I wouldn't expect a problem. Now if he has been violent then I wouldn't expect a good outcome.

Just an update guys, I helped him draft an official letter and he faxed it to the BC CFO office. within 30 minutes of sending the fax he got a call and was approved.

Hey Liberty.357

Do you have any advice for me? I sent in my license renewal back in oct.-nov 2017. I am STILL waiting for my new license. Frustration at an all time high. When i call them they keep saying the same bs that it on the cfos desk and completing final review. (not even kidding). Im citizen of canada pay my damn taxes don't have a record. this is insane

Any advice helps
thanks

You know he's banned right?

All you guys need to know is ombudsmen or section 74 of the firearms act. People need to stop bending over and use the act against them

Shawn
