Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

Is there a extension for a CFO worker who is nice enough to look over a PAL and approve it over the phone? Like the nice people at Miramichi?
I really want my PAL by next month since I see my dad once a year and I was really hoping to go to the range with him.

3 months and 11 days for me so far with no end in sight. In hindsight I should have just applied for my PAL but for some reason I though ah screw it, save money with RPAL in case I get a pistol even though I don't want a pistol.

You will want one eventualy.

Hello all,

Back again with another update. Finally got a call today from someone down at the office. He says the usual 'we have a huge backlog of applications right now.' He says, there's no benefit to calling in all the time, as it actually slows down work. While that may be true temporarily, it hopefully gets my file near the top of the pile if i'm calling in all the time. Anyways, my file is at the cfo due to my answer to one of the questions (have you been diagnosed with depression or any other emotional problems).

So he asks me some follow up questions: 1) Why do I want a restricted firearm? 2) When did i get into firearms and wanting one? 3) Is my wife into firearms? 4) Do i have children in the house? 5) How is my emotional health? 6) Have i ever had dealings with the police? When and under what circumstances?

Anyways, I jumped through all the hoops and then asked what the next step in the process was. He says he has to check into some more stuff and we will probably have another conversation before he gives the go ahead. If I don't hear from him in 4 weeks to call him back and he gave me his direct line.

So, it seems if you have answered no to all your questions, you might have your process moved along faster, but because I have answered a question positively I may be forced to wait longer. Well, that's not what it says on the PAL application website. It says: "Our service standards to process a complete and accurate application are...45 days, including the 28-day legislated waiting period, for a licence application." My application was complete and accurate and I don't have a criminal record, history of violence, or anything like that. I didn't know it was illegal to be on medication and have a firearm.

Anyways, rant over. My letters have been emailed to various MPs and MLAs, not just for my own sake, but to draw attention to the ridiculous backlog, delays and bureaucracy to do with anything firearm related.

so you have confirmed what they told me when i called the 1800#, read my post on page 36 of this thread.....

it doesn't make sense that someone with mental illness should be granted a license to own firearms. they will probably delay you until you give up. probably because they think you might shoot your family then
turn the gun on yourself.

Join the club, I'm PTSD/ect and having to let them look at my medicals records along with providing documents from my doctors/ect to say if they have any concerns about me possessing firearms, luckily I've got one letter clearly stating I responsibly use my firearms and it is therapeutic for my condition to get outdoors and enjoy legal sporting uses of my firearms.

A big downside to all the events going on down in America with mental illness and people going on shooting spree's it results in even more fine tooth comb screening up here, while I applaud their concerns it is a bit inconvenient.

Not all forms of mental illness mean you will go on a shooting spree or kill anyone but they are much better off doing a good investigation.

dont get me wrong... not saying anyone with this should not get their RPAL, jjust saying you cant complain if it takes longer than the average joe.
the system needs to take longer so they can cover their asses IF somthing goes wrong. cant fault that.
they are hoping you end up in the database with a road rage or something so they can deline your app. In my opinion, keep nose clean and be patient.

My son applied for his RPAL over 5 months ago. When he calls in, he can't seem to get past the national contact. They say they've passed it on to the BC CFO but there is no way to call them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Originally I was thinking of going for both at the same time. A friend with restricted firearms experience toldme the wait time in BC could easily be 6 months. So he suggested I do one at a time, so I could at least shoot NR for 5 months of waiting.

Glad I listened.

i called them today and waited 7 minutes to find out of the reg papers for the new norc that arrived and was told that i comes from Ottawa and may take a week or so and she emailed me the transfer notification in less then a minute

I got my Long Term ATT in less than 24 hours.

Two simple steps:
1) Email cfpcfounit@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
2) Attach photo of your gun license and valid gun club ID

You should be receiving an email with your ATT attached to it the next day.

Regards,
Toshi

I've never had an issue with ATT's.
Leave a message, get a call back they email you the permission slip and life goes on. It's too bad they don't trust us with guns.....Makes you wonder why they issue restricted gun licenses in the first place if they don't trust us to do the right thing and follow the law.

I don't think it has anything to do with trust. I think these laws are ment to frustrate and alieniate gun owners from guns. If they can frustrate you to the point you no longer want any, they win! Freedom is Slavery and so the social conditioning continues until all are frustrated and irritated to the point where you just say F### it!

We know thier game

I'm just trying to point out the stupidity of making people authorized to have guns jump through hoops all the time.
I really don't think this was designed to frustrate( they are not that smart) it's just they( who ever drafted this BS) are that stupid and really believe that these conditions and permission slips make people safer. The only people that are safe are the people who work there as their job security is off the charts despite the fact they are all parasites on general tax revenue.

I agree with you Can-down that the laws are total BS and Stupid and do not add much to public safety! A criminal hell bent on destruction will not think twice about drilling a magazine pin out, or calling the CFC to get an ATT to the local grade school! The only reason that I can think of is that they put up these roadblocks to discourage and make difficult owning guns. The prohibited status that some people have, is causing attrition of a class of Firearms on a generational level because the stupid BS laws discriminate between one gun owner to the next based on what you owned at the time the laws went into effect! Discrimination is morally wrong, but we have it full tilt in the firearms community!

We will continue to have these BS laws until every single gun owner, regardless of style of ownership, target shooter, causual, trap, skeet, hunting, tacitcal, rimfire, handgun, cowboy action, all stand as one united voice! When that happens, the laws will change :)

My applications for firearm licenses were submitted on or around February of this year. Apparently I forgot to sign the back of my picture, so they sent that back a couple of months later. I called in May and they confirmed that everything was fine and that my applications were sent to the BC Chief Firearms Officer. I have called every month since that time, and have been told that everything is fine, but they have a very large backlog right now. I keep reading about 45 day processing... The CFO has had my applications for over five months. Does anyone here know how long the backlog actually is? Should I be expecting my license next month? Next Spring? Summer?

There is also a really good sticky thread with tips and approximate wait times. Mine took about 64 days to get approved for my RPAL/PAL I'm just waiting for it in the mail now in Alberta. 5 months seems like forever!
