Because they have 100x the boar population as we do, and only 10x more people to hunt them. That quite literally makes their situation exponentially different. If you need me to explain what exponentially means i can do that too. You did the right thing by asking for help.

So because at one point in history a people didnt take hunting seriously as a means of wildlife management, but engaged in it for sport and casual meat harvesting, hunting can never work in another geographical location at another point in history? Is that honestly what youre going with? The US at no point was trying to seriously reduce the boar population until relatively recently, after they let the population absolutely explode by failing to manage it in any meaningful or organized way. Claiming we in Canada cannot possibly help control our tiny in comparison boar population using organized hunting as one of the tools is just beyond ridiculous. Constantly rephrasing the perceived issue without providing any realistic alternatives also makes the situation worse.

Most of the pig hunting in Texas is done at night, unless you are using a helicopter to herd them. Pigs have no sweat glands so they are nocturnal for the most part in 90 deg+ days. Been there 4 times and all sightings were at night using thermal imaging. Lots of cattle mixed up in the fields so you have to be careful. The breeding season is all year. I doubt hogs breed in Alberta or Sask in winter but I could be wrong. Traps work if the population is high. Hope to go there again this spring. Last year March it was 90 deg F in west Texas making it pleasant to be outdoors at night, sleep during the day. No licence needed, no orange clothing, no restrictions on firearms and you get to use all those hi-tech night vision toys we can only dream about here.

Why can't they do something similar here. Thermal night hunts and heli hunts. Bet the population would go down with no cost to the government. Boar population control has to a big extend to do with harvesting the right animals out of a group ("Rotte") and understand their social behavior.
