Still waiting for those smarter than me to explain why the Americans have this problem with as far as I can tell zero restrictions on hunting them.

Because there Pig growth was way outta hand before they starting trying to kill them ALL .
Just poor management and hunting practices such as we have up here in Canada . JMO

Hunting doesn’t work for controlling pig population. That is being presented as a fact.

If indeed this is fact, then it makes sense that there should be no hunting of pigs by anyone, as it is detrimental.

However, as the link clearly shows, one group is allowed to hunt, while another is not.

The contradiction is right there, in plain sight. And no one on this entire thread has explained it yet. Instead the same rhetoric is spewed again and again.
It shouldn’t take genius levels of IQ to figure out what will happen, both with the pigs and the only group that is allowed to hunt them?

Ok… sure. That kind of makes sense. Certainly lines up with what we have seen in other areas. So hunting isn’t a good idea for population control.

Since the reintroduction / western migration - whatever they call it,... - of wolves into south/west Germany there's not a single report of any wolf (or pack thereof) hunting/eating a wild boar, not even a "Frischling" (rookie boar).

There's lots of reports on dead domestic sheep & goat kills. Them wolves aren't taking on a single boar or a sounder, they know better than that.

I've seen a german shepard (the dog, not the man) torn up by a 2 year old female protecting her offsprings... The dog managed to get out but it cost him dearly - only one ear left !

So, IMO this whole wolf blah, blah is simple bureaucracy nonsense....

You have seen a german shepard attacking a wild sow with pigglets? And you don't think a couple of wolves can kill a boar or sow because? Back to the shepard attacking the sow. That must have been interesting. where did that happen?

You got that right. One could sent in more dogs but at the time that sow squeals, reinforcements are on the way. You can have 4-6 yearlings cornering the dogs/wolves and there will be damage done...

I agree on "wolf proof, armored", because I have not seen any evidence of a wolf pack taking on a wild boar sounder and having a confirmed kill in Canada or Europe. Pls help me out here...

Females can have litters as early as 7-8 month old, with an recorded output of up to 15 offsprings (some may have been adoped by other "milk sows", orphaned nannies ? ...)

Now, look at the side effects to introduce wolves onto farmland to keep the boars in line. You're creating a whole new conflict scenario right there !

But what would I know, do you really think the people of Rome want a pack of 100 - 130 lbs canines to take care of a 200 lbs male boar - man, give your head a shake !

All true, though I can't speak for the Romans. They're not hard to kill though. Various European countries wiped them out 1000 years back, with nothing more powerful than spears and arrows, so I think we might stand a chance. - dan
