Whenever The topic of firearms comes up in conversation, I always mention that I collect Millsurp and am always interested in buying. Last weekend I was up to the hunt camp and one of the members took ownership of his dads guns and since he has no interest in millsurp he brought me up 3 guns.

[/IMG]Next we have a 1943 english No4 Mk1 made by the F factory ( I cant remember how to spell the name so I wont try). It looks better in real life than in a pic taken with my phone. It has 2 features that I havent seen before. First the cocking peice has no serrations for gripping and all steel is partialy covered in some sort of green paint that from what I have read was applyed after the war for rust protection. The third rifle is a bubba built No1 Mk3 so I dident bother to take pics.

Anyhow all 3 for $150. I have filled a small cabnet with millsurps using the tell everyone you know you collect method and this was a nother great example how good it can work. I thing they will be happy in there new home and enjoy swapping war stories with there new friends.
Thanks for looking.

Nice score! Congrats! Is that oil that the rifle is covered with? Pics these size are just fine to me...don't know how others might feel though.

OEM ya thats oil on the swiss rifle, there was a little surface rust starting to show so i wiped it down with oil untill I get a chance to clean it properly. Bittermansbro yes it is a swiss vetterli and yes it is in the original rimfire calibre. Deltasilver, you are right about farm auctions and garage sales. At any garage sale with any sort of gun related item (old gun rack, case, hunting gear) I will ask if there are any firearms for sale. Havent scored big at a garage sale yet but its a matter of time. I take great pride in finding these old rifles that are just collecting dust. Anyone can buy a WW2 issue enfield but it only takes a little legwork and a few conversations to get one for $50.

As you probably know, the Vetterli is an antique.

It is regestered already. When my friend took them in to his posession there were a bunch of rifles not regestered and he registered them all. I also have a realy nice Itilian 1870/1887 Vetteril Vitali that is regestered. I was told that because it was converted to magazine feed that it was no longer antique even though it was converted around 1887. How do you un register a rifle? I know if I search this site I could find that info but my computer skills are somewhat lacking.

Call the CFC, ask them to deregister a rifle that is an antique. Explain what you have, it's in .41 Rimfire.

Make sure it hasn't been converted to centre fire first though. Probably not but you have to check...as long as there is no hole in the middle of the bolt face, just the two pins on either side, it's RF.

As for the Vetterli Vitali, is that CF? If so, it probably requires registration, unless it's a single shot over that certain bore diameter.

- The Swiss Verttelli is an Antique aka Historical Firearm because it is a Rimfire.

- The Italian-Vertelli 1870/87 is a modern rifle because it is a centerfire magazine fed repeating rifle.

Garage Sale Score

I only had one but it was a home run.A guy was just setting up and had a nice Cooey M60 .22 for 50.00.I took it and asked what else he had.He said he was also about to bring out his dad's 30-30.I said I would be glad to see it.It was a 1955 M94 fired maybe 10 times. He felt that it had to be worth 75.00.I agreed and took them both home for 125.00.
Days like this make you wade through 1000 crappy garage sales unfortunately.

Makes me wish that Toronto had better garage sales, instead of "pixels for pistols" or some such tripe...:(

id buy that cocking piece if youll sell it, they were a cost saving war time part that was deemed unsafe so most were destroyed

I think I will leave the cocking piece where it is but thanks for the offer. I have decided to just clean this rifle up and leave it as it is. I have a nice 1950 Long Branch to shoot as the bore on this rifle looks a little rough. I am likeing this rifle more and more everytime I look at it. What would the value be on this No4?
