It really a little sad...

Have you ever actually made an AR lower or produced a complete barrel from a blank? I've watched it being done and can tell you it takes a lot longer than what you posted. Also your post supposes said company has a quarter million plus invested in machinery to do the work. No company in Canada is going to invest that much into a rifle they will sell a few thousand of at most.

If it is so easy why not produce one for yourself? I'm sure it would be an enlightening experience for everyone.
I built a lower on a manual machine. I've done a lot of the programming for a lower and other aluminum machining, that's what I'm basing my cut time estimates on. I was assuming production tools with high feed rates would be used on a machine optimized for aluminum.

For barrel turning, I'm just guessing at times. I'm looking at how long it takes to machine a 14" long stainless round bar, and extrapolating from that. Not really that much to take off to contour a barrel, the way I see it. I never said it was exact, just a guess. I was mostly ball parking and pulling numbers out of my ass.

I am currently building a rifle, not for sale though.

Whatever......

....I don't know what to type here.... Everything I do, I erase because I might get an infraction:p

How about, You are mis-informed as to the legalities of ballistic armor

It's too bad that people are always so eager to tell others they are wrong that they themselves don't bother to get all the facts.
Sorry I don't usaually stoop to this level but you caught me on a bad day. Pettiness annoys me.

Don't forget there is a lot more to an AR barrel than just the external contour. There is the muzzle thread and crown which takes one setup. There is the rear thread and chamber which takes another setup. Then there is the gas port drilling which takes yet another setup and a totally different machine. So to actually produce a useable barrel takes a fair bit of time.

Yes I noticed.

The only point I was trying to make is that way too many people seem to think it is easy to make a gun. Just make a few parts, assemble them and Wham sell a super cool black rifle for $1000. Well it doesn't work that way and to really make something costs a dam sight more than most people think.

I have went thru the costing on building AR's in Canada 2 years ago. Some of you will remember the M203 stuff as well. It is NOT going to happen for less then $2500....with all parts being made in Canada. And that is not much profit for the manufacturer, and next to nothing for the retailer.

Sorry - any one that thinks a sub 2500 dollar rifle will be made in Canada is on glue. And cheap glue at that.

Every one forgets that they make $30+ an hr in trades in Canada. And that is not the full cost to the manufacturer. Typically the total burden to have someone on the payroll is 1.5X the wage.

Why do you think all of North America's production capability is going off shore?

Even the "great" Caterpillar Inc is farming stuff out to Korea and China.

Lets get over it guys, if you want to play, you have to pay.
