It's christmas........if money were no concern........

I'd hunt a couple of months in a place like Tanzania, on a traditional tented safari. Invite a couple of good friends for portions of it. Taking it slow and absorbing the experience, shooting a variety of plains game and working up to the dangerous game. More than one buffalo would be on my wish list. Maybe include a side trip to Namibia for desert game like Gemsbok. Some bird shooting for variety, and fishing too. Learn some tracking and reading of sign for the masters of the art. Eat some of everything I shoot, except predators. Have Holland and Hollands made to measure for the trip, a pair of sidelock SxS's for the birds, a good .470 double rifle for the big stuff, and a matched pair of bolt rifles for everything else, in 7x57 and .375. Finish with another month or so in Argentina, for bird shooting, red deer stalking, and wild boar, and fly fishing for sea run brown trout. One second thought, why quit after a few months? Just keep going for a year or so... driven boar and deer in Hungary, Sheep in the Mongolian mountains, Brown bear at Kodiak, trout and salmon and deer at Haida Gwaii, Salmon and caribou in Labrador, Guar and Buffalo and Barramundi and offshore Marlin fishing in the Northern Territory Australia, Bonefish and permit fishing in Belize, Sheep and mountain caribou and bear in the NWT, and end up back home for waterfowl and whitetails in Saskatchewan.

-Lion, Leopard, Croc, and Elephant combination hunt in Zambia over 4 to 6 weeks.
-Polar Bear hunt at home
-Cessna 185 or a good Lake 250 Renegade
-New timber frame / post & beam house on the acreage for the mounts to be displayed (had to tack the house into this somehow).

In reality will be happy with just one of the lower three off the list. Who am I kidding life's good already without any of em, but a man can dream. ;)

!

If $ was no object, I'd treat my small, aging moose hunting gang to a NFLD trip or even Alaska. I'd buy em all Sakos too!

....and bring a decent cook!!;)

For firearms maybe a Kimber Montana in 3006.

For a hunt, Africa, have not been yet and it's on my list. At the top of the Africa hunt list is Water Buffalo, then a zebra, and maybe a Kudu.

After Africa, Argentina, for those big red deer that make that roaring noise.

I'd get a really, really nice Win 1886 in .40-82 and take it moose hunting. My grandfather always said he thought the best moose rifle going was the .40-82 but he never did own one. I had to pass on one in Edmonton 20 years ago at Trail Guns. Damn shame, the price was good but I just had no money.

I like reading lists like this, honest, solid, doable stuff; I respect that. Going crazy at it takes a lot of the pleasure out, I think, wish I was as humble in some ways. Side and small note, they're Cape Buffalo, the Water Buffalo are Asiatic. Save for a Kimber Caprivi .375- it'll do everything the .30-06 will and more (.375 and .30-06 have the same trajectory), but you won't need another rifle anywhere you wish to travel. :) I'm quite partial to the Kimber Talkeetna myself (hope I spelled that right, didn't google to check).

Well, Since you guys are going after the big prizes then I would be happy with:

h ttp://www.privateislandsonline.com/islands/ronde-island

and a Cessna Caravan hangared in Turks and Caicos would be great.

Had to give this a little thought. I always believed in exploring your own backyard before venturing into someone elses. I have only ever hunted in Ontario, and have done reasonably well over the years.

But if I had the funds to go on guided hunts I would probably go to Saskachewan for trophy size white tails as they have always eluded me here, and rumor has it they some dandies out there. And then I would like to hunt sheep in the Yukon, Dall sheep. I was on a canoe trip in the northwestern Yukon a few years back, one evening we hiked up into the higher elevations, spent a couple hrs seeing how close I could get to a bunch of them. Beautiful country and challanging terrain, and a majestic animal. Always wanted to go back and hunt them. While there I mighjt also want to take a crack at a grizzly, a nice big one.

And of course if money was not an issue I would take a buddy along at my expense.

As for guns. I have always been real partial to Win. M-70's and I have several. The next one on the want list is a 375 in super grade, trouble is they don't offer a super grade in 375 so I would have one configured to match my 30-06.

Next I would order a Caesar Guerini Ellipse over and under in 20 gauge for pheasant hunting, plus a new breed labrador retreiver that are bred for pointing pheasants.

Hunting in my own area for deer would be fine with me. But more importantly, huge donations to the CSSA and NFA to fund the battle to keep our firearms.

If money were no object, huh? How about a 3-month trip to Africa. Start the trip in Seychelles, getting over the jet lag and clearing the mind with a few days of pristine beaches and cocktails at sunset. Then start the adventure with one week hunting buffalo on Mount Loosimingor with Rainer Josch, and another week hunting grants, tommies and a lesser kudo on the nearby Masailand plains. Then eight weeks in the Selous, which should be time enough to successfully hunt all of the "Dangerous Six" (lion, elephant, more buff, leopard, hippo and croc). The Selous hunt would be fun to book with Ivan Carter, but I would be equally happy with John Sharp or Shaun Buffee. Then, once it's all in the salt, I'd catch a plane to Victoria Falls, hire a houseboat, and spent the next two weeks fishing my way to Lake Kariba, wearing out my arm with bream, tigers and a 6-foot vundu.

I can almost taste it.

Sigh...

See now Neo you truly know how to wish and live a fantasy. Those who haven't been there have no concept of what you're on about. How about 40 lb giant tigers on the Congo river, or marlin fishing off the Seychelles. It is truly endless what one can wish for and not even know there is more out there to do!!!

I can almost taste it.

Sigh...

I bought my self a present already, maybe a little to early for xmas present but would be greedy asking for another one.
I always wanted 270WSM and get new tikka with fluted barrel.
Great present for years to come

If money was absolutely no option give I'd give a bunch of it to a foundation to get more younger kids hunting, fishing and just appreciating the outdoors. Ive got most of what I want, I think keeling the tradition of outdoor life going is more important than myself acquiring more stuff.

 I like that!:)

If you're going to dream why settle for a Caravan, go right to the Pilatus PC12.

Personally I wouldn't want to be bombing around all that open water(with a hole s***load of CB's) in a single engine. Even if it did have the tried tested and true reliability of a PT-6. I only say this because I've been spoiled with flying a twin ;)
You can get an old DHC-6 for cheaper than a Caravan too :D

I would get a beautiful Purdy double 12 bore with fancy wood, straight grip, splinter fore end and fancy engraved receiver. If I were to add a hunt to that, it would be for Grizzly from which I would make a magnificent bear rug with a full mounted head.

First would be to finally hunt Africa. Nothing to exotic at first. Just a 10 day plains-game hunt with my recently acquired pre-64 .300H+H, with a stunning Greater Kudu at top of list...well hell, while I'm dreaming, lets throw in several days of Cape Buff' hunting with my trusty old .375 Browning. This would of course be with a top Outfitter. Boddington could carry my gun. We're both gun-cranks so we'd have lots to talk about. Yeah if only.....sigh.
Merry Christmas
Geoff
