Well , it's now August ,so here in my part of Ont. we can say everything opens next month, well not everything but we can hunt.Sept.1 WMU 62 bear season. Rem. 7400 .30-06 or Rem. 700 7mmultra mag.Not sure which. Somebody had to say it. It's almost time to hunt and this thread and you guys are driving me nuts just waiting.
First day out will most likely be out after deer, but I usually just wind up killing a couple chickens. As usual I will be carrying my Marlin 1895G in 45/70, and as always my Rem 870 in 20ga will accompany for ditch chickens.
I've been thinking of using a new and or different big game rifle all year, really want either .260 or .338Fed but like always I know I'll grab for the Gov't.
Maverick 12g for chickens, then the Marlin 45/70 Stainless GG for elk and moose in October, then a Savage 12fv in .243 for deer... if my freezer isn't completely full by then.
I get a 10 day bow season before rifle season, so I am going to go after a Muley with that. Then for rifles, who knows. I have a several that will do the job. I would think the ol-standby .30-06 will have the first go. Boring, I know, but sometimes you dance with the one you came with, so to speak.
Winchester 1200 pump for upland/pheasant with my German Short Hair pointer at my side and a month later Winchester M70 classic 300 wsm for every other 4 legged creature I buy tags for
On october 4th, moose hunting will open here. It will be my birthday. So wish me my 60'' buck.
I'll be roaming the woods with my Rem 700 XCR 300 Ultramag, toped with a Zeiss Conquest 3.5 x 10 x 44. I'll be shooting 180 grains Accubonds pushed by a not yet known quantity of RE 22.
As back up, Ruger M77 MarkII 300 WM toped with Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5 x 10 x 40.
