It's opening day for whatever your after.

Just because you need a super duper magnum blah blah to kill big game in this day and age, and because its soooooo boring, I'm going to grab one of the 30/06's out of my lock up and use it for all of my big game hunting this fall. My bigger magnums won't see moose or elk season this fall, and my 25/06 AI won't see deer, no siree, just the useless 30/06:D I'm willing to look like a looser in the bush due to the lack of coolness, but I hope I don't loose any animals from the lack of power produced in the cartridge:rolleyes::p

I will be carrying my Sako 7X33.

Contrary to what some others think, its good to go top end for power when stalking dangerous game like chickens!

I'm going to park my stable of 30-06's and likley humble myself with a Mosin M38 for bear and (hopefully, see my WTB in EE) a Swedish Mauser M38 or M96 for whitetail. Am also parking the scoped, rifled barrel Mossy 500 as well to try the Strathcona shotgun season with Dad's old, old Ithaca M37.

Might be an interesting season but I think the challenge will only improve my current skills. The 30-06 will come back out for Camp "W" because those deer are very skittish after the 2nd hunt, no close range shots to be had.

Sept 1, rabbits: savage mark II left hand .22. I may just leave the "range bunny" alone though and find some others. That is one suicidal rabbit, always hopping in front of my target.

Sept 15, grouse: Norinco HP9, unless I buy a BPS by then.

Sept 20, Moose: HVA-Carl Gustaf model 1900 super lux Left-hand, .300 win mag. I just got a VX11 3-9x40 for it, and cut it to the proper LOP for the recoil pad the previous owner put on. I added a whiteline at the recoil pad too, just finishing that project up.
Backup is an Eddystone 1917 .30-06, stock is bubba-ed and barrel free-floating. A tasco 3-9 sits atop it on a one-piece leupold mount. Original bbl, and it shoots one MOA with the right ammo.

I'd entertain the idea of going for deer, but I'll see about what's left over for tags by then. If I didn't take the moose guns, I'd bring my M14 to make iit interesting.

My first day out will be during my bowhunt for moose, and I'll be carrying my Exomag.

My first day gun hunting will be my moose hunt and I'll be carrying my Remington 7600 in .35 Whelen.
