Got out three afternoons this past week on my days off. Lost track how many I shot the first two days but it was easily 150. Then yesterday my buddy joined me. He brought his 223 along and I had my 10/22 which I had been using all week. Was able to video a couple shots. We shot another 50 or more, again lost count? Either way past the 200 Mark this week for sure and just in one 1/4 section pasture!!!! Here is a couple short videos.

Right on spank. Nice head shot there

I on a big kick right now on to see how far they can fly, so I try to him em low. Seems to be working.

If I keep this up I dont think Ill be shooting my 17hmr much this year

That video is of black tailed prairie dogs.

Just a reminder to all that prairie dogs are NOT gophers, they are a protected species in saskatchewan and Alberta. They tend to form huge colonies in one small area instead of gophers spread out multiple holes across fields. If you spot a small prairie dog population report it immediately! There are only about ten known in the two provinces and any land containing one will probably get the owner a good chunk of cash to preserve the colony.

Is there anyone around Saskatoon that is looking for a gopher shooting buddy? My .22, .22wmr and .223 are looking for some action. So far I've had no luck getting permission from any of the landowners I have talked to.

Im gunna go check out some community pastures once the rain pisses off for a while ill shoot you a pm

Those are considerably larger too than the Richardson's Ground Squirrel...aka Gopher we are shooting here.

Have you seen the gophers cannibalize each other as they are being shot? When nothing is green, meat will do.Soon you have a large bait pile with more coming.Harold

Went out this afternoon and smoked about ten with my RIA 10/22 clone. :sniper: Haven't had a chance to sight it in properly, so I am shooting it "minute-of-gopher" so far. Shooting a mixture of Federal copper plated HP and SuperX HP. Works just fine. I used a 25 rnd BC steel lip mag.

Anyone in the Estevan, SK, area looking for a shooting buddy? I'm new to the area and I've got a new CZ 455 in 17 hmr that i'm itching to try out on the gophers.
PM me!

Scored a couple more when I went out on thursday for a quick shoot. It was almost like they took the day off and they didnt really want to come out for anything that day. Oh well its early in the year.

The new load I got is really tearing them up!

Took a few pics, but they are kind of... icky lol

Hiya, I am out by oxbow area, we go out at least once a week, let me know your schedule and we can set something up! Do you have an atv?

Thread went stale. Had a decent gopher day, second time out with the Caldwell Chair pod. First time wasn't convinced it was good. Starting to like it now. Not a bench rest but stable enough for the job at hand. Also a handy little counter for the feeble minded, ends the confusion on kills.

Wow, you guys must be using fmj's, the gophers are still all there. :)
I still scratch my head in the wonder of it. But I acquired an old 32-20 Husky single shot that when running 60 Grain Speer Personal Defence hollow points...explodes gophers radically. Often there isn't enough left to take home for the mother cat. Bit's will be scattered in a 5' radius from a kill. It's swings way outside it's league, 130 + year old calibers don't do this...or do they?
No pic's though, the remnants are macabre at best.
Gotta love gopher season, eh?
