It's that time of year again: Destroy all gophers!

My gopher shooting is taking a nosedive, going in for a knee replacement next Friday. Pretty sure that'll slow me down, crap on one side but better in the long run. There will be more and bigger ones by the time I get out. We have so much frick'n snow here anyway, it'll be a while before the pastures are dry enough to drive out on.

Little critters are all around elk point and vermillion. I got a couple by the hat already, met a nice dude on the way out to foremost we are going to go when I get off work, it pays to talk to the old timers. they have a lot to say sometimes. Plus I guess he knows some close spots Ive seen many little critters in but don't know the land owner however he does. Too bad we don't have a year long season for deer they look like cattle grazing there is so many I've seen all over Alberta.

vermillion eh? might just have to head out to my uncles next weekend, unf busy this weekend.

Destroyed a couple more today. ;)

If you dont like to see some blood, dont scroll down.

First guy I ever blew right out of the hole

We also scored 3 yotes today.

That looks like a blast. Up here in northern Alberta theres not much farmland. Mostly woodland, pole lines and clearings from logging. Would these areas be any good for gopher hunting? I've never noticed many gophers out around here, but then again I wasn't really lookin for em. Got any advice for a rookie??

Won't be getting to any of my pastures soon. Bloody snow. Was just out checking for calves and heard a seagull, no place for the geese to get water yet. Been a long winter and i'm sick of this, come on global warming.

There are two schools of thought on this thread.

1. All this blood and gore and laughing about killing "the little bastards" does not do much for the image of "hunters".

2. Killing animals is what we do and that should never be covered up for "political correctness".

I don't think I am an extremist either way but am closer to the first group. It is pretty hard to sell non-hunters on hunters enjoying the hunting experience and closeness to nature and fellow hunters with some of the pictures and statements on here.

Agreed! For me though,if i aint eating it,i aint killin it

The place I shoot is not on the list this year. Anyone want to help a guy out with some suggestions.
Here is some "food for thought": When looking for good available gopher land and the probability of getting permission.....Look for Cattle farmers (usually tons of pasture land!!!!) that are Organic farmers! They don`t use chemical, thus can`t poison for gophers. They are usually ecstatic if you ask for permission to kill these vagrants!!

Just got home from town where i picked up a few 22lr rounds. 8 boxes of Federal 525 for 19.97 a box. Regular price sticker on the box is 32.99 :kickInTheNuts: Now where are the gophers. Oh and for the guys that only kill what they will eat, i would guess that you are city boys and don't own land that these little varmints tear up. Badgers are even worse for tearing things up to get at the gophers.

@ 19.97/box..... How do you sleep at night knowing you just robbed a store??? $27 for the Fed 525`s here in SE Sask.

Ive seen ALOT of badger holes this year already. Seem to be lots around for sure. Never scored a badger yet, so I hope this is my lucky year. :)

Don`t get caught unless you have a fur license or Permission from a farmer. The permission part: you might check the details on that, I`m a little unsure.
