It's tough living in the North!

Why not? Last time I had burbot, we did it deep fried in beer batter with homemade fries . Sure was delicous. Good luck again on your second trip!

Curious to know what you're technique is for fishing them? I live a little ways south of you (In BC) and have only set lined for them. I remember reading an article about fishing them in the spring a while back, but I cant recall the specifics of it. Would love to hear what you're using for bait, and what locations on the lake you're targeting.

Thanks

Hey Ted is it still tough living in the south of the north? It's still tough up here!

hahaha awesome post , kinda makes me hungry near the end..... and I have the sudden urge to head up to the lake out back and catch me some kokanee to deep fry for supper.
livin south of the "north" ain't so bad ;) (cariboo BC)

No safe ice yet. Couldn't stand it any longer, so called a buddy, picked him up around 10:30, and we went trolling for lake trout.

Turned out to be a gorgeous day, light wind from the NW, bright and sunny, -7C. The boat built up a little ice as we trolled, but nothing serious.

Fished for two hours, got five hits and put two in the box to bring home, six and four pounds. The four pounder had a fresh eight inch grayling in it.

Left the camera behind in the truck when we put the boat in, but got a few nice pictures on the way to the lake.

I can't believe how mild winter is this year. Have you ever been fishing out of a boat up there in the second week of December?

If this is the fishing, hunting and scenery I have to look forward to.....I'm going to like my time up there.

that's a similar landscape as what's going on at my place in the Cariboo, and sounds like the same warm weather too. my lake should have the makings of some decent Christmas ice by now and sadly it's not gonna be. In typical fashion the -20 overnights of late November showed up, dumped a foot or so of snow..... got everybody giddy about the impending ice fishin season...... and whammo..... it's summer time LOL , +3 overnight, raining........... bah !
perhaps I can get my tinboat out on my lake.... I need a smoker load of fresh kokanee for new years ;)

I can't help but feel sorry for you Ted!!!!
Fishing, Hunting and beautiful country to enjoy.......Must make it extremely tough living up north.......Life Is So Cruel
Not sarcasm.....Just a little jealous.
