It's up to you to arm the Canadian Forces...which sidearm do you supply them with?

None.

The media has helped me see the light.

All sidearms and rifles must be banned from this country. The Military doesn't need weapons since that is obviously the cause of people going around killing each other. Moreover, they have the UN to protect them and there will be no more killings in this country because the UN will put identification stickers on all the guns so we can track thier destruction. If the military runs into problems such as an invasion or the like they can just call the police and within 15 minutes they can stop them and we will take those criminal invaders to court where the legal system will save us all.

I for one lack a surplus of trust so I'll be getting a unicorn to defend my family and myself.

Does this at all reveal my propensity for sarcasm?

DUDE, NATO ROUNDS. IT HAS TO BE 9 MM. Our militaries are not allowed to carry other rounds then 9 mm for logistical reasons. Only JTF2 can carry what they want.

...So if I want a dueling pistol...I have to be in JTF2? :(

Are you in JTF2...your d/p is pretty tactical-cool :)

Although I agree, .45 is a poor choice for a standard issue gun.

As much as I would like to say Glock would be a good choice, I have to say there are far too many f*cktards in the military that would ND with a light trigger like that far too often. I would probably go with a Sig 226, got that nice heavier trigger pull to prevent NDs. Agree with earlier comments, let the Americans keep the Beretta. . . I really don't think a "combat" pistol should have an external safety. Just adds that extra step that can :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: you up. Should only be tap rack bang, or mag change bang.

I would choose the Glock 17 for its durability, dependabilty, accuracy, ease of training, ease of maintenance and inexpensive. I was issued a Sig Saur P226 and certified on them since 2000, and owned my own Sig Saur P226. They are accurate pistols but too many broke in training and while on tour.

Training prevents a lot of ND's, even with the current Brownings with external safeties there are a lot of ND's and even a death that I know of, this all comes down to the operator and training. Glock 17 is my choice.

M&P 9 is not there with quality or durability, I had a slide release brake on it, and for those reasons I would need to see the factory upgrade the quality of the material before I would choose a M&P

I have an M&P 9 that I have put 20k through........ I have yet to change a single part........ That's more than just reliable IMHO. How old/used was yours when it broke?

Never had an issue with my M&P. If people are stuck on Sig, I would suggest the 2022 then, cheaper than the 226 and bette at withstanding abuse, such as the current cleaning methods by most soldier.

What broke on them exactly?

Glock or M&P or P226R DAK

the CF does not train enough to be safe using a decocker or saftey "excluding CANSOFCOM"

Mine's over 30K - no issues, just maintenance. They should get Glocks or M&P's and while they're at it, double the order and re-equip the RCMP at the same time. That, of course would be cost efficient and ### procurement is allergic to efficiency.

More browning hi powers and a refurbishment of any of the current ones that can be salvaged.

Pistols don't have that big a role in the CF: Anyone that's going into combat is going to be carrying either a C7 or C8 (more then likely a C8 if they're previously carrying a pistol). Used the money saved for more ammunition, and range time.

Glock 17 because it is simplistic both in function and in design. It is reliable and it is more then accurate enough for combat applications.

G17. It'd don't rust. And it's siht simple. And field disassembly and repair is easy.

Although the 225 6 8 would be fine too.
