I've wanted one of these for years, but could never justify the cost...

Thats a fine looking firearm. Very fine!

You know, we work hard all our lives and sometimes we get stuff just simply because we can. We don't need reasons or justifications. That is a beautiful rifle.. er... shotgun...

Very nice! I've been toying with the idea of getting one of those for awhile. I missed a chance for one in 12ga/7x65r and have regretted it. I agree with Longwalker that this gun cries out for a rimmed cartridge.

Looking forward to a report when you get it. Does it come with a scope mount?

John

Great choice in the BRNO 800 series! you will find alot of guys staring at you! don't get worried, they just want too hold your gun!! I have the series 500 that came before the last reoganization, in 308win/12ga and payed close to $1500 tax in 10 years ago, so inflation sure has not caught up with your new purchace! have fun! I know I have, Dale Z!

Yes, but the base of the 303 Br case is too small. The better answer is to make them out of 444 Marlin brass, which is exactly the correct size base.....and length after being sized down. :)

"The Brno Combo gun is a great companion for predator calling or mixed bag hunts...."

Now there's an understatement if I ever saw one. I'd love to see the size of the "bag" you'd be using to carry both grouse and a moose/deer :p

Congrats on the purchase. Over/under shotty/rifle combo's don't turn my crank but I must admit, she sure is purdy ;)

If you do a wiki search for "combination guns", you will find some interesting information.

Now if I can only get my hands on a Springfield Armory M6 Scout in .22 Hornet over 410 :)

Improved Modified will be ideal for slightly longer ranges, and certainly adequate for most game. However, I will likely not be using this gun for fowl (possible exception would be turkey).
What do you plan on using the shotgun bbl for if not for fowl?

I have given this type of gun a lot of thought and see it's purpose as a big game rifle with the very convenient option to bag a grouse/rabbit/pheasant/duck while in the field, thus my recommendation for an IC choke. IM is pretty close to Full choke and therefore too tight for the range most upland game is encountered.

Sounds like he wants the gun for coyote hunting, I agree though a .30-06 / 12g sounds like the perfect moose hunt gun, use the -06 to bag your moose, and 12g for grouse.

Well if the opportunity availed itself, deer or moose, definitely.
However, my main intention for this combo gun is predator hunting mainly. 30-06 for longer out, buckshot closer in. I have better, more specialized tubes for upland fowl and duck.

I wasn't thinking "predator".

Here in NB we're not allowed to carry larger than 22cal outside big game season so the 30/06 would make it illegal. All the coyote hunting gets done here with 223 or 22/250.

My idea of perfect for one of these would be a rimmed case like 303 British or 30/30 over 20ga with IC choke for deer and grouse with a 1x4 scope.

That would be sweet for medium sized game, though I would take a 30/30 and 12 gauge combo for diversity of cartridge selection. But, I never discount the possibility of filling my freezer with some fresh moose steaks and sausages, and 30-06 is your best friend!!

Sounds like Kurgan needs to start handloading, noticing a trend towards typical off the shelf cals...? If you already do, never mind, if you don't, can't believe there are hunters here who still don't handload!

Supercub, that's s dracconian regulation I hadn't heard of before, ouch.

My problem is that I have a few too many rifles in various calibres, and I just don't use any one calibre enough to really see an advantage to handloading. 10 years ago was a different story, and I will find increased need when the kids move out! I suspect that many people handload for the love of handloading, and it has nothing to do with cost savings.

303brit are working just fine. The case buldges slightly to fit, but it's centered when you have the die turned down far enough to match the chamber, and you can't beat the price of brass.

Cost savings is the last reason I handload, it's entirely about making custom, tailored and perfect ammunition. I'd go nuts if limited to factory ammo alone, would lose a ton in versatility (I load my .375 for game from 25lbs to 6,000lbs), can't imagine not choosing my preferred bullet, powder, brass, etc etc and finding the combination of those that my guns are at their best with. Plus, as you noted, it's just plain fun. :) Shooting wouldn't be the same
without it.

The more calibers you shoot, the more the reason to handload! You only pay for a $40 set of dies and a shellholder when you add a new cal to your reloading bench, they'll pay for themselves too. You're already buying the primers, brass, powder, and bullets for every cal you shoot, you're just paying somebody to assemble it into a generalized mix you hope works well for you. :)
