IWI CSR18 Carmel non restricted rifle with 18.6” Barrel

If the original iwi arad lower is proprietary, it could be legal in Canada
Hmmm, good point, as long as it was designed pre-bill 21. I wonder if IWI could be convinced to make a batch of Israeli Army spec ,non-AR-15 compatible receivers with NR length barrels for Canada? Maybe if we help clear their Carmel inventory 😉

It looks like there may actually be a plausible argument for that. The original ARAD "contract" rifle appears to have been designed around 2019, well before the C-21 cutoff date, and it used a 100% proprietary lower receiver. If IWI were to offer a civilian semi-automatic version based on that original contract design, I guess it could be argued that it’s a pre-2023 design and not a prohibited firearm variant, nor marketed as such. That might put it in a different position from the ARAD 5, which is marketed around AR-pattern compatibility. The original 11.5" barrel length would make it restricted, but a factory-produced version with a non-restricted-length barrel would solve that issue.

That said, look what happened to the ATRS Modern Sporter...

In what fantasy world is the Arad lower not an AR15 variant? Ease up on the left hand cigarettes, fellas.

It's all over the IWI website "M4 compatible", "M4 type lower", etc. That alone kills it.

Looks fabulous!

How do you like the ergonomics? how does it shoulder, LOP, Fit and finish?

Looking forward to a range report if you get it out sometime soon!
Ergonomics are good. Very Eugene-esq 🙄

It’s chunky! Not heavy but beefy. Fit and finish is great. Adjustable LOP and cheek riser.

It’s a very simple design. Feels really rugged.

I’ve not shot it yet. Trigger is crisp and light.

It comes with two QD swivels and an attachment for a QD to Mlok - that’s nice.

I suppose at this point there isn't much difference buying a restricted version versus nonrestricted...they pretty much know you have one either way.
I wonder if the government will be a little 'gun shy' to drop an OIC ban hammer on these just a few months before the the Supreme Court challenge or am I giving them too much credit for common sense?
Looks great in any case and I will buy a nonrestricted if I can get my hands on one. I'd like the 18.6" version just to gain the little additional fps.
I'll likely drop a Vortex 1-8 or 1-10 Strike Eagle on mine as they seem to group decently at longer range.

I’m on two preorders for the non restricted version.

I can’t keep all three so when the NR roll in I’ll sell one of my preorders.

The nonsense government can do whatever they please. It’d look awfully silly to ban a rifle they just approved.

I have a feeling that they’ll back away from bans for a bit. That’s just my gut.
