99.9999999% any other barrel profile won't happen because the gas block is way close to the receiver and a thicker barrel will not allow the gas block and the push rod indexer to slide through the muzzle end for installation. Thinning out those two parts are no go, and making a new forge or case of that complex geometrywill not make any dollar sense, especially this is not a gun built for accuracy anyways.group opens up after 4 rounds
Ha! jk
I'm guessing. I like the idea of the pencil barrel but hope that we get the option of a mid weight at some point. One of each would be nice
Think it will behave more or less like the X95, but more precise to start with.Thank you gt. Wasn't aware of that
Ai says 20-30 rounds quickly could open up the group
That would be my guess too.Think it will behave more or less like the X95, but more precise to start with.

That’s my take as well. That would be my guess too.
I know everyone wants these to be all things (since we have such a lack of quality .223 semis these days) but this is just a basic infantry rifle (albeit with a longer barrel and semi only) and will shoot a such. The way I see it, with the only 2 "real" options being the Carmel and the Makasi, the Carmel is the option if you want something that will more likely than not be a very reliable but not easily "modded" rifle with rack grade precision and the Makasi is the option if you want something that is more easily modified/reconfigured/setup for precision but that doesn't have reliability or qa/qc on par with a rifle developed and manufactured by a defense contractor.
I mean, honestly, that's what a rifle/carbine should be, imo. I find it so strange how hung up some people are on the aesthetics of a rifle. For general use it just needs to be totally reliable, have good ergos, easily accept modern enablers (optics, LAMs, etc) and be reasonably precise (2 moa with match ammo). That’s my take as well.
The more I’ve handled my Carmel the less uninspired I realize it is. It’s not ###y, sleek, or modular. It’s just a workhorse. A tool.
People were spoiled by the pre 2020 good old days or even the pre 2024 day. The 2026 reality is that anything that doesn't look like a hunting rifle is a blessing and if it works decently don't be overly picky. Yes, I know the line "my hard earned money" - it is a choice but on the other hand expectation needs to be adjusted for the reality.I mean, honestly, that's what a rifle/carbine should be, imo. Yeah, I get that. I had all the good stuff back in the day too. I still never bought something based on what it looked like, I got the best tool for the job. We have way less decent tools available to us now, basically just the Carmel (if you want something built by a major DC that has therefore been through rigorous T/E) but the amount of people I've seen going on about how they'll never own one because "it's chunky" or whatever other aesthetic gripe just blows my mind. Who cares what it looks like? It's for putting bullets on your poa. Maybe I'm just a grouchy old man, haha.People were spoiled by the pre 2020 good old days or even the pre 2024 day. Like literally I cannot think of anything that will fit into the pre-2024 design thing - there maybe one or two obscure things sitting outside but I will think that's it take it or leave it. there maybe one or two made by major DC but if you haven't seen it in the US market this means they are minimum 3 years away if they magically appear at a commercial trade show tomorrow.
I will buy a shoe box that emits death ray.Yeah, I get that. I had all the good stuff back in the day too. The Carmel’s bolt handle is easily changed from one side to the other, and it has an ambidextrous safety and bolt release. It also has a brass deflector.Still have no idea what to get. What’s lefty friendly?
Pluto. During it's rainy season.Still have no idea what to get. What’s lefty friendly?
