Ok, so I did a search and didn't see anything.. so I just had to!

First advantages I see:

TAR-21: Lighter, easier for speed mag reloads, slightly longer barrel

FS2000: Forward ejection, truly ambidextrous without tear down, body design seems to be less likely to snag on things

Any other thoughts on the two or disadvantages? :)

Try both if you can. But just to make a point on the FS2000 side, its not as bulky as it looks like in pictures.

If I had the money I'd buy both, but I don't and own neither of them. But I've shot the FS2000. Great little gun.

Tavor!!

Main reasons I went with the Tavor:

  • spent mags don't drop free from the FN
  • no last-round bolt hold-open on the FN (and therefore no bolt release)

For me, mag changes on the Tavor are smokin' fast, now that I've practiced a bit - I can reload the Tavor faster than I can my AR. I can't imagine that I'd be anywhere near as fast with the FN, considering the above...

Yep, should be trying out the TAR-21 in Jul, but can't afford either at the moment either. I do love the design of both guns, so ultimately I think I will need to buy both in time... or immediately if I win one of these stupid lottos :p

Although I'm trying real hard to be impartial regardless of the fact that I pre-ordered a Tavor, I would have to say that the work involved in converting a Tavor to a lefty shouldn't be an issue. Not unless you intend to constantly swap between left & right-handed configs.

I don't see how you could go wrong with an FN. But as Jarlath stated, it's too curvy for me. I like curves on my gf, not on my rifle. ;)

I first saw a report on the Tavor on Discovery or one of those channels about 2-3 yrs ago. I was sold on 'em at that point but knew that there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell of my ever getting one. When they became available and I confirmed that deliveries were an actuality and not just fiction, I could hold back no more.

And so I wait, patiently....

I prefer the smoother and lighter trigger on the Tavor. The hand guard on the Tavor doubles as a rest in the prone position. Both are well balanced. My only concern is with the plastic moving parts in the FS2000. Overall, I prefer the Tavor.

I have one of the first import Tavor's, and liked it soo much I grabbed a second one from the latest batch... They are an exceptional rifle. I take it out for deer as well as yotes... (62gr. bonded soft point is a fantastic bullet :) ). Our hunting land gives us opportunities within 100m, so the rifle is perfect... plus slugging it through heavy brush is a breeze due to it's size...

That said, I'll be putting some money aside for an FS2000...(non-restricted). I'm an FN fan, and have been for years... plus I'd like to have something to keep the PS90 company... ;-)

As far as users are concerned I'd say both rifles are on par. I have no first hand knowledge of either rifles, so I can't give an opinion based off of pictures and internet ramblings.

I had an FN FS2000. Sold it. It does feel bulky honestly, and I didn't like the mag set up or the toilet seat. I've never touched a Tavor, but I do own a airsoft version and want the real deal baaaaaad.:(

At the moment neither is The hot ticket for a lefty. There are no left hand bolts for the Tavor, and the cocking handle on the FS2000 is a pita. Otherwise, were I a right handed shooter, I'd call it a wash. Both are fine rifles with their own features, issues and advantages, and like comparing any designs/rifles/manufacturers beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I've zero issues shooting the FN as a lefty. In fact, it is by far the best ambi bullpup going. Far more accurate than the Tavor as well.

Far more accurate? Really? From what I understand, the Tavor's pretty darned accurate; what was your experience like shooting the two? I'm curious, because I've only used mine at under 100 yards

The Tavor I've tried and have seen shooting was around 2-3moa at 100m and past that to 500m it was around 5-6ish moa.
Not really that shocking considering the action, but then I can honestly say I haven't had a chance to really ring one out.

The FN can hold an honest 2.5moa at 500m.

Thanks for bringing this up. I figured they would both be comparable. I know a show on the Discovery channel was making the Tavor sound like it was 2-3 MOA at 300m.. but as with anything on TV I chalked it up to most likely being for entertainment value and awe factor more than an actual average moa.

Honestly don't think there's that much difference aside from the preference. Some people like forward ejection, others like fast chamber check. Some people like bolt catch others, not so much. Some like beer can mag release, while other like easier to drop free ones.
Some thing makes it apart is Tavor comes in Non-Restricted already, whereas FS2000 you have to spend like $700 to change barrel to a Non-Res.
FYI I like the FS2000 more though

Here is my list of pros and cons on the FS2000 (One of mine is for sale in the EE:redface:)

Pros:

-Light (weight is not even an issue)
-Balanced (Definitely smaller in real life)
-True Ambi (Forward ejecting)
-Normal and Adverse gas setting
-Easy to tear down...up to removing the piston
-Accurate (1/2-3/4" @ 50m, Back up sights)
-Can be non-res
-Tri-rail available for front end (HUGE upgrade in both function and aesthetics)
-Clean shooting (no oils or fowling projected at the operator, all fowling restricted to the piston)
-Can fire A LOT of rounds before the piston MUST be cleaned (Due to adverse setting)

Cons:

-ONLY able to use USGI type AR mags!!(No Pmag, No Emag, No TD ARC etc)
-Hard to get a good sling setup
-NO bolt hold open
-The toilet seat cover is not bad but does add the extra step to a stoppage
-Piston is a very poor design. (Requires a special tool to remove when it finally is too dirty to keep working)
-Back up sights are a bit low for me. You really have to get your face down to get a good sight picture. Also the rear aperture is TINY especially for an emergency sight. Great for long range but crap for close up.
-Trigger pull sucks ass

I think that's about it. All in all, it's a good rifle. Well worth the look if you are interested. When my Tavor comes this week, I'll do a side by side comparison.

The issue of the lefty using the charging handle is the same as a righty charging an AK or a Sig...just reach over the top.

Those who don't like it's "curves" should check out the tri-rail front end. IMO getting rid of that bulbous fore grip is a definite improvement in the aesthetics department.

2.5 MOA at 500 :p Wow sounds as good as a SAKO TRG42

For only 1 dollar more than brand new from at least 2 CGN sponsor dealers. Such a deal.
Out of curiosity, what was your price before your price drop or your "***PRICE DROP AGAIN***"?
