JAE 100 for the M14

One BIG point to all the haters, who more them likely have zero practical knowledge of the stock or the alternatives- Life is short, do what makes you happy. If we think the JAE-100 stock is both ###y AND functional then who the f*** cares, why be so negative when you likely have bought/own gun related items we would scoff at but chose not to? There are alot of worse ways to blow a grand I can tell you that for sure. Since I seldom drink, never smoked, and don't pay for hookers I figure I have a lot of 'VICE' money saved up and the JAE-100 fits like a glove.

Can you believe I used the term 'haters' ?? HA!

I love my JAE100 stock. I think it is worth it, great solid lock up, beautiful look and feel, very adjustable and practically eliminates felt recoil. Each to their own I guess. I personally don't think a plain Jane McMillan is worth the money asked for it but some people do. Different tastes.

Its cool and expensive compared to the price of the rifle. So what? Its much more for the money than the MacMillan, thats for sure.1000$ isn't even a weeks pay for some people (not me).

I believe McMillian's M3A start at $624 US, and Robertson's at $400, plus the 10-16 week delivery time for anything custom. As for the others - Marstar Custom M-14 Aluminium Stock w. Picatinny Rails it runs at $675 Cdn and the Sage EBR/Mark 14 Tactical Stock is $720 US.

The cost of the JAE 100 is not out of line in comparison.

Anyways, I am looking to make my M14 as accurate as possible in the 600m + range. I think the JAE will help:)

Skullboy,
What change your option of the JAE 100?

Weight is my biggest issue as I have to admit, once the complete rifle is built up, 15 lbs is getting on heavy side.

You are a disgrace to all Victorians. I personally shoot 40" .50 cals just to prove a point.

That I am a manly man. A man unphased in the face of really heavy guns that give you a major work out and give you swedish male model pecks and I'm just going to keep making this run on sentence run on until I *gets shot*

I contacted Robertson's shortly after buying my M14 (about 3 months ago) and he said there were no plans for an M14 stock/inlet. He did, however, thank me for showing an interest in his stocks and his politeness left an impression. I'll certainly be checking out his stocks again for another project.

ILovePotatos,
My point was aimed more that taking the rifle on a hunting trip, I thought it would a bit heavy to haul around in the bush - but I will take you offer of carry it from me on my next trip, I really appreciate it.

In the mean time since I don't have time for the gym, I an going down to GNC to see what I can get for 'bulk' up:D

How do you find the .50 cals shooting deer on the island? Is there anything left to haul back to camp, or are you pretty much left with 4 legs and maybe the head?;)

P.S. I have only lived he 10 years, do I count as a Victorian yet? or is there time left for you guys to kick me back to Ontario?

I personally like the JAE stock, and would use one if I was building a Sniper type M-14 Rifle.Thats what the stock is best suited for.For a Service rifle or a rifle that has to be carried for extended periods it would be too heavy.

I have built and/or owned several custom M-14s and used or had my hands on most of the fancy stocks out there, so I am giving my opinion. YMMV.;)

Weight was one reason I sold off my Custom Sage EBR/CrazyHorse clone. It was an boat anchor to shoot Service Rifle matches with (especially on the run downs...), and as a Sniper/precision type rifle, you are better off to go the bolt gun route.Less Hassle, less money................

I just think there are more important Mods/Parts that money can be spent on to improve accuracy instead of running out and buying one of these stocks. Same goes for a Sage or McMillan. Those stocks will do a little for improving accuracy, but no where near the improvement a decent match barrel/bolt/trigger properly installed will bring.

But hey, if you have the extra cash, do what ever you floats your boat.

I am just speaking from SEVERAL years experience and M-14 tutorship with "Master" Hungry..............:D

SKBY.

I've had several M-14 type rifles ...
wait a minute,
let's make that,
"I've had several DOZEN M-14 type rifles".
That list includes half a dozen or so full house, everything goes, money is no object, M1A and Norc "TARGET" rifles.
These "Target" rifles, with their favorite MATCH loads, off of a bipod, with a BIG scope would consistently shoot every shot into around 1" - 1 1/4".
In fact, when I match prepped a 14, I guaranteed 2" accuracy. Never had anyone bring one back to collect on that guarantee.

The Norinco M-14S I sold last week had been tweaked a bit [ I can't help myself ... give me an M-14 and an hour, and I tweak the damn thing ... it's a compusion ]. The only real mod to brag about was fitting a used US GI bolt. That El-Cheapo Chinese/US GI bastard just shot 4 shots into 3/4 " [ fifth was a flier out to about 1 3/4" ] with iron sights , South African 7.62 Ball, off of a hasty high rest, and with near 60 year old Lazered eyeballs.

Cost of add ons? $ 200 for the bolt, and about 15 minutes lapping it in.

A USGI fiberglass stock probably won't tighten things up more than it is already, but the GI Glass stocks will keep that tightness for a few more thousand rounds ...
at a cost of say another $ 100.

Then a GOOD trigger job ...
at a cost of say another $ 100 in parts and labor.
In my humble experience, the trigger job has more to do with consistent accuracy on an M-14, than the barrel, the stock and most of the rest of the match conditioning combined.

Anything after that [ and believe me, like Skullboy, I have BTDT before ] the point of diminishing returns has been reached.

But, it is YOUR money, and you have my personal permission to spend it on any damn thing you want. [;{)

PS: any of you EXPENSIVE stock owners got some no longer needed US GI fiberglass stocks you want to sell at reasonable prices?
I'll take all I can get.

You've been here 10 years and you haven't left yet?
Damn son, you could run for Mayor. Hahaha

Regarding the .50 gat, I line up all the deer and use just the one bullet. Indiana Jones style.

I think the stock is a good buy, I love the fit/finish and quality. I locks up very solid with no glassing in issues. Hell, it is a 1000 bucks. Some people pay that a month for a truck payment. I opted for the old truck and the fancy stock, personal taste. My Norc is no match rifle but it wall consistently group at 2" and I shot a 1.1" group (best of day) @ 100. When I bought the rifle the best I could do was 6". The weight does also tame the recoil for when you shoot 200 to 250 rounds in an afternoon.
I just happy there are companies finally giving us accessory options!

Big fan of the M14 but like SKBY & Laz2000's quotes, I have to agree..
That is why I'm into hi-cap mag fed, Bolt action precision rifles.. You save so much at the end with way better results.

With the extra money you can save by going this way, you could get good glass on your bolt gun.

Here's one I just finished rigging up for a buddy of mine. I will be doing my own one next and then on to the next 2 I was asked to do up if I can get my hands on some M-14's They are a great chasis and until you have tried one or held one you will have trouble understanding how it is worth the dollars. But believe me you get what you pay for in quality and this one is a bargain in my opinion. I get my stocks from my buddy down in Calgary who can not be named.

How can a serious gun nut not get a fuzzy feeling looking at that rig, and a chubby holding it?:D
