Agreed. Yeager needs to slow down and take a breath and realise that he is a tool. If you need any proof, just watch the who is james yeager video on youtube. Anyone with an attitude like him who says they are the worlds best tactical instructor needs a reality check. He then says he told his daughter to not tell her friends about their food stores because he would shoot them in the face, funny how he posts a video on youtube for everyone to see his weapons, ammunition, and food stores.

I feel the point of any instruction is to learn what others are doing / recommend doing and adopt what makes the most sense.

The day I believe everything an individual is selling is a long way off, but a lot closer than the day I have all the answers.

what do you suggest for doing a 360* scan if you don't like the ballerina scan ?? there is position SOL but not everyone is safe with that, in a packed classroom the "ballarina" scan works everytime and allows the instructors to see the students doing it while reinforcing with the them the need to keep situational awareness... you show me how you would do it with 25 students on the line.

Retrospectively, the team should not have remained static for a protracted period of time in a canalized area such as route IRISH. IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE THAT THE TEAM TRIED TO CREATE DEPTH BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND THE LOCAL NATIONAL TRAFFIC DUE TO THE THREAT OF VBIED ON THE BIAP ROAD. Inadvertently, this maneuver also resulted in the team unmasking from the concealment provided by low profile saloon vehicles within the main body of local traffic.

Those of us who were in Iraq at the time armchair quarterbacked this to death 7 years ago, mostly on Lightfighter, and Yeager himself said that they were maintaining a bubble around the convoy. Yeager had yet to start his own forum at that point.

Plenty of mistakes were made. Including some by Yeager, though I think his were far from the worst made that day. That said, most of his courses seem like ballistic masturbation, with most of the experts on his forum, Tony Scotti being an exception, being utterly unqualified in the subject matter, or sociopaths.

To me, an inexperienced hobbyist, the bolded sentence didn't mean firing on approaching vehicles when I read the AAR. I thank you guys with knowledge and experience taking the time to help guys like me learn stuff.

I dont have a problem with hi Port position, or SUL(assuming sol is typeo).Both are viable techniques in certain situation. I was talking about Tex himself. As an instructor
he did not look comfortable, he looked awkward and some what off balanced in a couple of scenes in the vids( I am guessing you watched the vids).Like i said first time
I saw the vid I thought some one was making fun of TR. I laughed 1st time I saw the vid Others that have seen it cringed.as far as your comment about Jay Gibson.
Why would I say anything to him?He is not the guy in the vid trying to be something more than he is. i regard that comment by Tex the same way I would people who quote

There are those on this site and the other sites who have been there done that have taken TR courses and have made the same observations about safety and quality of instruction. If you can honestly take Tex seriously and feel comfortable taking a course with him as your instructor go for it. Im just pointing out what is out there. I certainly would not want Tex representing my brand, but that is just my opinion.Your opinion may be different.

I've seen many of his videos. Seems like hes pretty knowledgable. But yes a douche. Theres a video on youtube showing his team getting ambushed while he was a contractor in Iraq. You can see him running away while the rest of his team returns fire. Reports say three of his teammates died in the ambush and he was sued by the company. I don't know if all this is accurate but there is alot of information out there about it. If its on the net it has to be true...right?! Anyway, you can see his legs sticking out in the median for the entire "gunfight". He says when shtf he'll be ready... I call BS.

I know there are a few here who met (and exceed) the above-noted criteria, but lets make it clear for all to know. Who's an actual experience operator and who should really be S'inTFU?

and whats the context of him running away? was he running in fear? was he running to grab equipment form the vehicles? was he running to engage targets coming from a different position or angle?

I know there are a few here, but lets make it clear for all to know. Who's an actual experience operator and who should really be S'inTFU?

I do agree that for the most part, those who meet your criteria will have the heaviest weight put on their opinions. However, you don't need to be such an experienced individual to come up with some logical conclusions about the ambush.

As was mentioned previously, JY and the others all made mistakes. The companies lack of armoured vehicles is a huge factor that cannot be ignored. Did JY drop the ball by having the car in neutral and forgetting the hand brake? Sure he did, but mistakes happen. Was it a bad idea to abandon the car for cover and/or concealment after the initial volley of machine gun fire? No, it wasn't. The two guys sitting right side were responsible for covering the sector where the attack came from which makes them just as responsible for what happened. Lets not forget the other vehicles and their guys who failed to notice the attack. Remaining in the unarmoured bullet magnet only to get wasted serves no purpose. If I'm correct, the two other guys who were killed in the car did not return fire at all. If that is indeed correct(tough to see in the video) then I think it would be most prudent to abandon the dead vehicle and incapacitated teammates. I strongly doubt JY is proud of his actions or the fact that he couldn't help his teammates. Its generally a bad idea to attempt first aid when the threat is still active.

bad things that happened:

unarmoured vehicles
Stopping on route Irish, considered the most dangerous piece of road on the planet.
Stopping well away from the rest of local traffic, indicating you're not a local.
Failure to spot the threat
Vehicle in neutral
Forgetting the hand brake


And no I don't meet the criteria above, I'm stating my opinion based on my limited knowledge and a little logic.

I'm no defender of Yeager, but he didn't run away. I, like many of the people working in Iraq at that time, watched that video and armchair quarterbacked it to death. Route Irish runs east to west in an arc. The ERSM team was ambushed from the northern side of the road. When Yeager debusses, he runs to the center median and covers the southern side of the route, which was a reasonable thing to do, given that everyone in the team who wasn't focused on casualties, was looking north. It was likely that this was his assigned arc in the event of a drama.

As far as the lawsuit goes, ERSM filed that against him after they fired him and he posted internal company documents on the internet. ERSM subsequently bought the website that he posted them on.

This whole thing has been beaten to death on many other forums and internet hero sites. This incident is 7 years old, let it go. JY reminds of many people I have met through out my life, you either like him or not, there's very little middle.
