Had three new carbines waiting for me when I got home from the Domincan.
'44 Tula M44, wartime Beech laminate stock, hex receiver.
'45 Izhevsk M44, laminate stock, DDR property marked.
'44 Izhevsk M38, wartime hardwood M38 stock.
I'm very pleased with them all. All have very good to excellent bores and should be great shooters too.
Thanks to Jean at P&S for the Tula, and to Anthony at TradeEx for digging through his rifles to pick the two Izhevsks out for me.
Great service from both dealers.

Richard, nice rifle, I too would struggle with that dilemma. Not a January purchase, bought in July finished this month. A Westley Richards rifle. These were popular with the Boers, it came from South Africa. I wish I could say that the work was mine, but alas not so. My wife gave me grief because I was locked in the bathroom with it, I mean doesn't everyone take a rifle in the bathroom with them?
Was a collection of parts, stock damaged in breech area. Barrel had two bulges and splits.

Good question, sadly you have to bore out the rifling and insert a liner.

GrantR, Don't know for sure but it may have been the felt wads. The theory that when you load a paper cartridge you place a felt wad at the base to form a gas seal. When you reload, the used felt wad is pushed forward in the breech and expelled with the next shot. A recipe for disaster. The fact that it was done twice is mind boggling.
