January Purchases!

Actually, Dyspnea has a pretty good idea there... I just saw on flea-bay a brand-new in-the-wrap P-17 barrel, frigging $300 though!

This particular barrel is mint inside, a shame to replace it, but still... maybe I can find a new No4 barrel somewhere. I'll keep you posted as I try and un-sporterize this one.

And thanks for the back-up on the purchase! The Warlord just found it tucked in the back of our closet last night while hanging up some shirts... she was a pissed for a while, but even SHE couldn't argue about the price.

Of course, she just HAD to bring up that old gem about "selling some of those 'great deals' to finance your NEXT project?"

Anyways... and God love them... they just don't get it, do they.

Let me offer this new addition up - likely winner of the ugliest rifle of the month, and guaranteed to make the rest of the January purchases feel really good about themselves. Why, oh why, do I find it so difficult to pass up a mutt.

Berthier carbine - cut down by the Greek military between the wars from an Mle 1907-15 long rifle. Apparently one of about 3,000 examples.

This one was/is a used and abused barn find I grabbed at a recent show for very little cash. Didn't have a carbine and though it needs a lot of cleaning, it functions fine, and I'm looking to make a shooter out of it. Time will tell.

Just bought it today from a CGNer off the EE

'53 Polish M44, all matching, beautiful Bluing, wood is a delicious blonde. Excellent rifle, can't wait to get her out on the range. Apologies for the crap cell phone pics.

You must come up with better excuses...
How about you won the rifle as door prize at a Gunnutz meeting you went to? :)

well after selling some rifles and getting a good deal from a fellow gun nut on here i finally got a M1 Garand :) not sure what year it is but looking online it suggest that its a 1955 Beretta, the metal in great condition and barrel looks great, 2 down sides is one of the apiece of wood is mismatch so the search for a close peaice of wood to replace it with begins and there is a timeing issue i guess, the last owner said sometimes the enblock ejects after 1 to 2 rounds, so hopefully its a easy fix. but i am happy and now i have to wait for my ammo to come in :(

Nice '41, but almost certainly it's a Canadian Arsenals 1945-1949 era re-barrel. Every original (non-Canadian FTR) 1941 LB I have ever seen had a 5-groove barrel. If memory serves, the 2-groove only came out in late 1942.

Sorry, you are incorrect.

I have a '41 dated 2 groove and a '41 dated 5 groove.

So does "that guy in Hamilton"...
