Jim Shockey wins Weatherby award.

That guy worked hard and took a lot of risks to get to where he is today. I tip my cap to Jim and his crew! Having said that, and not that it matters, I feel that I have less in common with him since he’s become so successful. He was really easy to relate to when he started out writing for Big Buck Magazine.
 
Few would turn down a life like Jim’s if given the opportunity, including the requisite sponsor back patting and commercial side of it to fund it. He works his arse off, the way he started was impressive. Leveraged everything he had, signed a deal saying he’d give the territory back and the seller keeps all money already paid if not paid off agressively and early, I think he had less than two years. Whether you like or dislike the show, the man seized life by the balls, made it what he wanted.

It's easy for people to criticize to hide their own timidity. Seems those are the first to cast a stone. People who have taken chances are rarely so judgemental.
 
I definitely know what you’re saying. On Jim’s show, no idea if it’s good or bad! Don’t think I’ve ever seen more than a few sound bites, then again I don’t watch any of the shows. But the man himself is solid and courteous and didn’t come by his success easily. All in all pretty admirable life to date. Sure if I was filmed and I had to pump it every show there’d be much, much more cringe material than Jim’s stuff. Coworker grew up neighbours to the Shockeys, he’s Eva’s age. Had to be tough as aesthetically god built him with a face for helicopter overhauls.
