Well I was at the Pickering gun show today. Took my wife and my brother. We had plenty of fun on the drive down though something crawled up my brothers a$$ and died and was slowly making its way back out.....
When we got there it was mostly antique pistols, and what I call "Fudd" guns (Just hunting rifles, they are nice and all but not for me, sorry guys.) I prefer black rifles and Milsup rifles (preferably with full wood!
). Well after walking around for a while I came across a beat up refurbished No4 Mk1. I wanted to see down the bore to see if it was worth the $375. However, not owning a Enfield before I wasn't sure if there was bolt lock on it as I could open it up. I asked the guy behind the table if he could open it for me. Not even he could open it. Something was wrong. While he was taking it slowly apart, I saw it.
A 1943 Long Branch No.4 MK1 with all matching parts minus the mag, good wood, and a MINT bore for $400. I was huming and hawing about it for a few minutes, when I heard the guy talking to another potential buyer say, ANY long branch could be sold for less then $400. I took this as a sign, I offered him $325, he countered to $375, then I gave my final (everything in my pocket
), $350. "Sold." was his reply.
I introduce for the first time "Big Bertha". I stopped by my father in law's to show him my new prize. He loved it but told me to come downstairs. Handed me a few things and said "No Enfield is any good with out stripper clips, a few live rounds, brass, and a bayonet!". Making this a pretty good day overall!
