Well I was at the Pickering gun show today. Took my wife and my brother. We had plenty of fun on the drive down though something crawled up my brothers a$$ and died and was slowly making its way back out..... cp:

When we got there it was mostly antique pistols, and what I call "Fudd" guns (Just hunting rifles, they are nice and all but not for me, sorry guys.) I prefer black rifles and Milsup rifles (preferably with full wood! :D). Well after walking around for a while I came across a beat up refurbished No4 Mk1. I wanted to see down the bore to see if it was worth the $375. However, not owning a Enfield before I wasn't sure if there was bolt lock on it as I could open it up. I asked the guy behind the table if he could open it for me. Not even he could open it. Something was wrong. While he was taking it slowly apart, I saw it.

A 1943 Long Branch No.4 MK1 with all matching parts minus the mag, good wood, and a MINT bore for $400. I was huming and hawing about it for a few minutes, when I heard the guy talking to another potential buyer say, ANY long branch could be sold for less then $400. I took this as a sign, I offered him $325, he countered to $375, then I gave my final (everything in my pocket ;) ), $350. "Sold." was his reply.

I introduce for the first time "Big Bertha". I stopped by my father in law's to show him my new prize. He loved it but told me to come downstairs. Handed me a few things and said "No Enfield is any good with out stripper clips, a few live rounds, brass, and a bayonet!". Making this a pretty good day overall! :D

that's a fantastic buy! $350 for a Longbranch is more a steal than a deal!

One thing however: When I read your title "manly gun", I thaught you bought yourself a Mauser... :D

hehe my thoughts exactly :) Major, that is one hell of a deal, nice work! The other Lee probably had the safety out of timing, incorrectly installed

There was a nice full matching Garand wrapped in a gorgeous stock with a tiger-stripe pattern in stock with 10 enblocs for 899 no tax. If I had half of that and begged my brother for his funds, this would have been a slightly different story! I would have taken a pic, but the show rules stated NO CAMERAS :(

*I* thought he was talking about a Mosin M44.

Seriously though, OP, congratulations on acquiring a fine rifle and a fascinating piece of Canadian history. My 1942 is the one rifle that I will never sell. And you'll find that it glows with a cold pale blue light when there are fascists nearby.

LOL! Pale blue! ha:

I do have:

M44
Mosin Sniper repro.
1916 Spanish Mauser
and now my Enfield

Its getting to be a good collection for a guy who has only had his license for 9 months (Not to mention a couple shotguns, a R700, CZ-858, and two .22's :D)!

Awwwwww crap, now you have gone and done it. now you have to get a ross and a enfield No1 Mk3 to keep it company.

ETA. Nice rifle BTW. Good price too. I just paid $450 for a minty barrel 45 LB

I saw a link for it here on CGN. Some more coming up around the area.

Show was ok. I was surprised by the lack of any modern firearms, minus the odd newer O/U. LOTS of antique pistols, around 50+ I would say. All in all I would say around 25 full wood Enfields of various models, 5 Ross rifles, 2-3 SKS's, 5-6 SVT's (couple of them done up tacticool...) 1 M44 Nagant, 1 Garand, and a few Swiss rifles. There was a lot of tables selling hunting supplies, reloading dies, and knives.

Personally, I thought the gun show last June, in Bancroft was much better. More handguns, modern "black" rifles, milsup, and used rifles. They also had this in Bancroft, made me drool for quite some time.
