Happened in Alberta - is this even legal?

I just read through the comments, there are way too many liberal hippy douches out there! Makes me sick reading the article when they are describing it like the guy was some kind of monster. Creative writing at it's best.

Idiots like this guy shoot be hung up by the gonads for gutting a bear like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hunt was legal and lethal... if you don't like it, get OUT of the hunting forum.

There was already a long thread about this.

Got to admit it was legal and obviously lethal but not my cup of tea. I fear another Cecil firestorm over what may have been a bad choice to post this on social media. That is never a good thing for our sport.

We don't have to agree with each other's opinion of this BUT we have to respect the fact member's of our community are entitled to an opinion even if it differs from others. Trolling aside.

My thoughts exactly, I think it'd be better for hunters to just stop publicizing their activities to the general population. If there isn't anything in the spotlight, the sheeple will get bored and find some other cause to whine about.

Or maybe the guy uses their tactics against them and tells the media he ###ually identifies as a black bear and was merely protecting his breeding rights!

I know a retired C.O. here in Ontario that charged two guys from Michigan for the same thing. This a happened sometime back & what they were charged with was hunting out of season. Not that they were not there during a hunting season, just not one for spears. I believe the charges stuck....

I guess Alberta has a spear hunting season? Who knew? I didn't & I lived there til 07... Rules change, I guess? Pretty good argument for handgun hunting in Alberta if this is legal... I know a couple of handicapped individuals who would hunt if given a chance with a handgun... Far less chance of non fatally wounding an animal with a handgun than a spear.

Not my cup of tea; but got to admit I didn't think there would be that much penetration...

I'm not sure why we have so many comments questioning his sanity. Was he excited? Of course! Compare his reaction to some of the morons on WildTV after they shoot yet another whitetail out of a tree; he's downright subdued.

He made such a production out of repeating over and over that there was no back-up that it kind of rankled me a bit. During the next-day follow-up, the guide is shown with a shotgun...briefly...but then sets it down off-camera. Now, this was a guided hunt; I don't even begin to believe that a guide would allow this spearing to take place without armed back-up. The liability issues alone demand it.

But all in all, this impressed me all to hell. More power to him!

primitive weapons season.

I've hunted black bear and deer for decades here in Ontario with a compound bow. Watched the video, don't really have a problem with this as long as it's legal and game was recovered, shot placement was a little far back, after all that's the way our ancestors have hunted for thousands of years.
