JR carbine owner, would you agree with what said in this vid?

I've spend a little time looking at the handle, and I think the best improvement would be to machine the handle as one piece steel with a simple spring loaded pin that pops into a series of dimples on the bolt as it's screwed-in by hand. A "ratchet" type design used in many configurations that works quite well.

Maybe we can come up with a made in Canada solution . What ever mods he comes up with in the state. like them or not. We won't be able to buy them up here anyway.
However I am a Carpenter on a Machinist so I can not be of much help!

What's the issue?
(JR in 9mm is high on my wish-list)

Apparently no real issue per se, just the fact that it ships with a 10 rd mag, so it bounces through the CFO. It takes a day. No rhyme or reason to it, but no reason not to look at one...

I've got a wee lathe and mill, so can do simple stuff, does anybody really have issues with theirs? That bloke's vid, he talks about helicoiling threads and such- well that bridge can be crossed if there's an actual problem. It seems to me he was coming up with a lot of strawman problems with solutions he could fix for a price, not real problems. I did my I-net scouring, and since they fixed all the quirks in the first gen with the triangular barrel, I've seen no negative reports.

So users... what are the issues?

Oddbawl, The only issue I have had with my JR (later model) is the bolt that holds my charging handle worked itself loose after about 100 rounds. This was the last time I was at the range. I have not had time to shoot the JR again so I may be OK with just adding some blue locktite and the problem is GONE.
But if someone comes up with a better solution than locktite I would be interested.

im not sure I have any REAL big issues with JRC. I dont think the bolt rotation thing is a big deal. and the jaming of a live round is a non issue for me as well. Its happend, pull the mag then cycle the bolt, no problem then. maybe Im just not looking at it enough...seriously tho, ive never had issues with things coming loose

Well mine just came home with me. Nice piece for sure. I hope to get to the club tonight to try it.
So... one major irritant. One of the main reasons I looked at this over anything else was the ambidexterity. Right away I pulled it apart to swap the ejector and bolt handle over. I can't wait to shoot a semi that doesn't spit brass in my face.
Well... Those wee screws holding that side plate are torqued or locktited in, and it uses like a tiny 3/32 allen key. The gawddamn things won't budge, and I can't get any real torque on such a small allen key without snapping it. I've put some heat to it, penetrating oil, nothing works. Sucks. Pissed off actually.

watched the vid again...got playin with my GF's sub2000 and got thinking... His plan to add a rail to guid the bolt..nice plan, so how does he plan to lock the back? The handle rotates down to lock the bolt back. adding an extended guid will mean the bolt cant rotate so you cant lock it. I mention the sub2000 because it uses the same idea and seams to be holding up just fine.

I spent an hour with mine.......
Gently bBack and fourth with a damned allen screw to break the bind; it came loose eventually, but what a damned chore!

Great.
Well, maybe this evening.
So. This thread has kinda veered of topic, but it might be good to just keep it rolling. When I was devouring all the info I could researching the JRs, I went through this forum, and the search engine struggles with it. It doesn't pick up the "JR" just "carbine" so you can imagine what comes up in this forum...
Anyhoo... I picked up a cute wee Bushnell TRS-25 dot sight for it.

Now for the question, and please forgive me, this is my first foray into blackish rifle stuff. I dig ARs, I just never really bothered with them as there's no decent range near me to justify a restricted rifle.
Where was I? Oh yeah. So the sight's pretty neato, BUT, it sits WAYYYY low on the rail. Is there an adapter that's reasonably priced to raise it up?
Next, something for the forend. I can see those rails getting uncomfortable on yer mitt. Was looking at something like the Magpul angled grip deely as opposed to a perpendicular grip as it seems to suit how my hand rests naturally when I'm shooting. I know jack about this stuff, my other project is an antique Rolling Block in 50/70 for God's sake.

What say you, oh masters of black rifle geegaws?

you could look into some type of rail covers. Im not a big fan of forward grips, but the AFG is somthing I would get, if I needed it. The threads still on topic. Seams like most guys dont agree with the dolt from u tube.

For the lock back.. He could machine a completely new charging handle that slides in-and-out. Out to run, in to lock. It would have a little lip on it that would slide into the groove that you rotate the current charging handle into.

The Thureon Defense uses this type of lock back system.

My Jr is an early version and runs pretty well. I've had it for going on about 2 years. In that time I think I've had 3 stoppages.
After seeing the thread about the bolt recall, I sent an e-mail and they called me the next day! They sent me the new bolt and an upgrade kit. I haven't had a chance to run it since but it cycles very nicely.

If I could change anything about it, it would be the barrel length and mag wells. I run a S&W M&P. Would be nice to not have to buy more pistol mags.

200 crappy Wolf loads down range with nary a hiccup. No loose screws or issues.
I'm a true believer. Best money I've spent in a while.

Hee.

I had my new jr at the range yesterday and it was a blast put about 200 rounds thru it. the only time i had any type of jam was when bump firing i had a few fte but nothing serious because im sure bump firing is quite hard on the gear anyway other then that i was more then happy i spent the money and am already think im going to order the kit to change it to .45

I talked to Wolverine the day before this tread started. About when the .45 conversion kit would be available in Canada.
They told me that they would phone the guy that brings them in and get back to me That the last new I have. SO, if anyone has any fresh information on when the Canadian .45 conversion kit is going to be ready. PLEASE share it here!!

Everybody I talked to when hunting my 9mm down said their next shipment will likely be in April, so kits might be available then. 1911 mags make me happy.

In the spirit of keeping things rolling (the Thureon Defense thread is winning right now, and let's face it, a cooler name)
I've got that TRS-25 mounted but was thinking irons would be dandy swell as well. Anybody have experience with some good irons that aren't uber spendy? I just don't see the need to drop $200 on irons for this.
Whatchooze guys think of the Magpul BUS stuff?

well as far as the thureon defense goes i actually shot both the same day last friday. my buddy who i do alot shooting with got the thureon and i got the jr. personaly i like the jr better but both are alot fun to shoot and feel pretty much the same to me. the thureon is more narrow and looks more like a old school sub machine gun and the jr is a bit thicker and has more modern look and feel. i think it comes down to what your into but the jr has alot of extra features and im sure more to come so for me im sticking with my jr lol just thought id add my 2 cents since ive been in the same debate with my buddy for months now over witch one is going to be the better carbine
