Looks like the 6.5x47 Lapua getting to be almost pedestrian! Here is another one I just finished bedding. Had the chance to test fire last night but conditions were less than ideal, rain and gusting winds. The winds played havoc with the groups but the potential accuray shows through.:dancingbanana:
Parts list:
McMillan Edge stock
Stiller Viper action
Stiller rings
Brux 1-8" twist
Shilen 2 oz trigger

Stock work by yours truly.
My apologies for the poor quality pics. I'm a shooter not a photographer!

Best group was my first 5 shots through the barrel [managed to squeak the bullets in between wind gusts]

Fantastic rifle!

it's nice to see the 6.5 x 47 catching on so well.

How deep into the lands are you seating your bullets?

@ 2.725" OAL with the 123Gr Scenar I am a little over 5 thou into the lands.

Not to be rude, I just am trying to understand. Is not this cartridge along the lines of the 30WCF?
And if so, why all the excitement for it and not the 30-30? After all it has been around much longer. Is this old cartridge so much less capable than this new one? Could not the 30WCF not been improved upon a long time ago as in the 30-30 Ackley improved? Is it just because the US military has taken an interest in it?

200 Meter groups

Decided to stretch the 6.5's legs a bit. Wind still not favourable with gusts not playing fair.:runaway:

Bullets seated .005" off the lands. Chamber is throated for 123gr Scenars @ 2.800" OAL. Chronographed the 37 gr. load of RE15 for and average velocity of 3155fps / ES 17fps. Further tests tomorrow weather permiting.

Teapot I don't think the US military is the least bit interested in the 6.5x47 Lapua or even the 3030 win.:sniper:

No where near a 30-30. it is a redesign on the 308 bolt face.

RC, that is great. Looks like you have a rifle that can shoot in the mid 1's. AWESOME.

Are you sure your load is going that fast?

Jerry

We have a tad more powder moving the same bullet just under 3000fps out of 25" barrels. He is about right....

Nice rig man, keep shootin"

Sweet!

I've been thinking of building one of these for a while now.
The velocity seems a little high?
Is that normal?

You're resurrecting a thread that's close to 2 years old now. lol.

So, after 2 years, what's the overall verdict?

I think you are referring to the 6.8 SPC which is derived from the obsolete 30 Remington, which as supposed to be a rimless equivalent of the 30-30
