I just bought my first pistol, a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow and am just waiting for the paperwork to come through. Anyone have any advice or tips that I should know as a new owner? Thanks!

Me personally, the first thing I do is do a complete tear down to clean and re-lube, this ensures it's lubed properly and allows you to familiarize yourself with the gun.

Check the barrel for obstructions, pass a patch or two, down it. Wipe off excess grease and oil. Shoot.
I'd wait for the complete teardown till after you have shot it.
That way, if it doesn't fire, you know it's not because of something you did, or didn't do, to the gun, because of your take-down.
And if you're anything like me, you just wanna go out and shoot that sucker, as soon as possible!:D

bring allen key with you to range for rear sight. mine loosens after a few hundred rounds and drifts right. might need drift punch too. I have lock tighten the screw on mine.

This is for a right-handed shooter. Print a bunch of these and use 'em.

Shoot it AND DONT MOD IT!!!! Yet anyways. Too many new shooters start modding there guns before they've put even 1000 rds through it. Shoot a few thousand rds through it before you modify ANYTHING. That way you have a feel for the gun and a sort of "baseline" if you do plan to mod.

Practice practice practice. Maybe have a look at either IDPA or IPSC once your a little more comfortable with it. Dynamic shooting is so much more fun then standing at a firing line trying to print tight groups IMO.

Mine had weak ejection until the first time I cleaned and re-lubed it. So I tend to agree with the strip, clean and lube before you shoot it option. Mind you it may well be that the first cleaning simply coincided with the slide and action breaking in and becomeing more smooth to shoot.

Shoot it a little first and then do a "poor man's trigger job" on it. That's where you dry fire the gun while pushing with an extra 5 to 6 lbs on the cocked hammer's spur. The added pressure will quickly burnish out any roughness on the sear and hammer. Repeat about 20 times.

Other than that just feed it ammo.

And look around for more magazines for it so you'll be ready to try out some competitions sooner instead of later. Punching paper is fine at first. But it gets boring quickly. check out the various handgun matches in your area and go out as a spectator at first then join in the fun.

I just got the same gun on Tuesday. Do yourself a favour and by a speedloader, the magazines are much more difficult to load than I expected but the Uplula loader I just bought works great.

Here's another one for you that I just discovered last night. No matter how hard you try or how much damage your willing to inflict on your hands you won't get the slide lock pin out with a magazine in the gun.

Watch out for used magazines at gun shows, they cost $50 new, I found 1 going for $25 at a gun show.
I would be careful doing a full strip and take down since there is not a lot of information on how to do so online, and the CZ SP-01 has a slightly different assembly then the CZ-75.
It is not too bad to do just be careful since there is not too much info on it. and there are a few small parts that the shadow has that others don't (an extra saftey detent that just falls out once the sear assembly is removed)

Degrease and clean prior to first use. Some people suggest a barrel 'break in'. Fire a few shots followed by a thorough cleaning of the barrel. Repeat a couple of times. Go nuts and blow through a couple hundred rounds. Also, that Uplula mag loader is a godsend. I won't go to the range without it anymore.
