I finally bought my first handgun today after a long time of following guns and not being able to decide between 4 or 5 guns.. I bought the Glock 17 Gen5 with Ameriglo sights. I wanted to get it as soon as possible now since if there is a ban they will probably grandfather the current owners. However, I am still waiting on approval. But in Ontario sometimes that happpens within hours of purchase. Anyways im happy to finally get a handgun

Thanks all. And why does it matter if its my first restricted or not to get a faster approval? Its not my first firearm. Just my first restricted

btw could they actually deny the purchase if I dont have any criminal record or problems or anything like that?

No.

Time to start shopping for your second restricted.

Because, from my experience, when you get your PAL even if you did RPAL and PAL courses and filled out and sent forms together, your PAL does NOT have the restricted designation UNTIL you get a restricted firearm. If your license number ends in .0001 this is extremely likely. Your FIRST restricted transfer will initiate the mailing of a new PAL card with the restricted designation, which if your current card reads .0001, will be .0002 (or +.0001 each time they change your license)

Congrats on the Glock.

If by hours you ment weeks or even months, then yes your right. First restricted transfer gets extra scrutiny and extra time before being okay'ed. Gunshops will have their transfers okay'ed much quicker then private transfers. Even then I have never ever seen a gunshop transfer quicker then three days in Ontario. My last transfer took 4 and a half weeks.

actually once you get your first restricted you get a new card because of transportation factor from home to gun club, anyway it is like this in Qc.

Enjoy and congrats. First restricted takes awhile. But after that should get better. Kinda wondering what's going on in Ontario lately. Bought from a store last Sunday and received the transfer Monday afternoon.

Enjoy and buy more.

from what i heard from the gun shop in Ontario is that they were getting some done in a mater of 2 hours and others were 2 days.

Wait, so they are going to mail me a new license now with the .0002 now?

Yes. Thats what happened to me last month when I got my first restricted. A couple weeks later I got a new picture license in the mail with the .0002 on it. Only difference from my first one I got a little over a year ago.

In B.C. I talked friendly with the guy, I had my transfer by email within 24hrs and the certificate in 4 days. you never know. This was in February.
