Just curious. Ammo shortage in Canada?

Here in the States, we have been having troubles finding ammo. After Obama was elected, the first time, it seems ammo has dried up. I understand our problem started off because people started hoarding, but does not quite explain the problem 6 years later. It is even hard to find powders.

Has Canada suffered an ammo shortage?
 
Yup stuff is hard to come by. Stuff comes in slowly here and there. Sure glad I seen this coming and picked up a bunch of stuff. I am scared to shoot because I am not to sure when I will find some more. Been a few months since I seen any of the owner I use. 22lr is running out in my city unless you want over priced remington and some winchester.
 
22 lr are like gold around here. Last brick of 22s i bought was back in 2006. Cost about $8.00. Now you cant even find them. And if you do, it sure wont be $8.00 a brick.
 
It's dried up because the markets are playing the conservatives fears that Obama will take your arms away. He has looser laws than both Bush men.(by not renewing expiring gun laws) We have no issues because for the most part we don't put up with idiots saying one guy will take your guns away

No Ammo Shortage in South Western BC. Literally stockpiles at the LGS. I believe it also helps that we don't have as many restrictions on purchasing imported Ammo (from China, Ukraine, Russia, etc). But oddly enough, good ol' made in the USA ammo is also quite abundant here.
 
Canada is feeling it, but its spotty. Two stores may not have any 9mm or 22lr, while the third store has five crates of everything. We are nowhere near as short on ammo as the USA, but then again, there is much greater demand there.
 
I live in Ontario - I reload more often that I buy factory built stuff.

1) I have found that supplies of .22LR has for the most part, has dried up.
2) Availability of the most popular centerfire ammo is hit and miss at best.
3) I am seeing a lot more European made ammo just lately on store shelves.
4) I am finding ALL reloading components very hard to come by in the last few months especially Hornady Bullets, Winchester Primers and Hodgdon Powders (+ IMR / Winchester).(example: I have had CFE223 powder on back order for four months)

I am speculating that most of the supplies are staying in the Lower 48 to fulfill demand there and Canada just gets the leftovers...

Not quite sure i follow you. I agree it is fueled by hystarea, but not unjustly. Obama, as a senator, proposed several anti gun laws. None passed. He then tried to push a 500% ammo tax. Again did not pass. He has attempted to go after guns, but polling showed it was a moot issue. He has even insured his liberal base that he is not done with it. Kerry has cut off our supply of foreign small arms and ammo. As for Bush, neither was concerned. The second Bush let the Clinton assult weapons ban expire. Other than that, neither concerned themselves.

Powder and primers are just now showing up. Bullets are hard to find. And when you find them they are over priced. Yesterday i was looking for 357s, to load for my daughter. When i found them, the shop had some factory winchesters for $2.00 more than just the bullets per 100. It was hornady xtp bullets and Winchester hollow points. I bought a box of factory loaded and some of the Hornady xtp..
 
It's not like we haven't seen in coming but there are still lots of shooters in for a surprise when they head to their normal source for some plinking .22lr ammo.
Good deals to be had though on Chinese and some Surplus but otherwise it's the annual price hike plus limited stock.
 
Well someone I think is really up with what is happening told me two weeks ago no more .308-300 WinMag-.223 or .338 Lapua will be shipped to Canada from US suppliers for the balance of 2014.

Time will tell just how correct he is. Had lots, just bought more.

Components or ammo? or both?
 
Don't concern yourself with RedApe's comments, he obviously is not paying attention to what is happening in Canada with regards to the confiscation of firearms in Canada. We have draconian gun laws and an over zealous anti gun lobby that the politicians pay attention to. Hey redape have you heard they want your SA rifle and your cz 858.

Supply here is spotty for bullets, primers and powder, depends on what you want they may or may not have it. Out of curiosity what would the average price for a pound of powder be? Say a pound of varget if need more specifics. I just thought of an example CCI BR2 primers are just about impossible to find in quantity, last time I went looking whole sale sports only had two hundred.

I bought some large pistol and small pistol primers. Winchester and cci. They ran about $5.00 per 100. I picked up a pound of H 110 and a pound of unique. Both were around $28.00 a pound. We are just now seeing powders and primers. I also pcked up some 44, 240 grain hornady xtp bullets. They were $28.00 per 100.
 
Havent notice any shortage. Lots of 22LR on the shelves. Im pretty stocked, but a buddy of mine just bought a bunch of CCI Mini-Mags. 9mm is on the shelves. The Norinco 223 is slowly drying up, but still around as well as the usual suspects in terms of other 223 brands.
