im just curious, but what make and model is the closest to a prohib you can get in canada as a restricted without having to re-barrel it?>

i dont think im going to buy one, but im curious... if prohibs were allowed i would have a totally different collection...

those are kinda cool.. ok maybe i will put it on the eventually list lol

keep them coming.

What about some of the North American mini revolvers? The folding grips on some models make them pretty tiny even with the 4.2 barrel.

In terms of smallest MASS the NAA options that have come into Canada win hands down. Check out "Junior" in this picture. It's the NAA "The Earl" and I got it when the now closed down Kodiak brought them into Canada because it's just so darn cute and looks so much like my favourite cap and ball black powder guns.

Then it turned out that the darn thing actually shoots VERY well once I figured out how to hold it properly. It doesn't go out all that often. But when it does I get a huge grin on my face and my hands are all black from the fouling coming out every nook and cranny of the gun buried in my hands.... :D

The other that made it in from NAA is their Mini Magnum which looks much like a scaled down Colt Python.

In terms of a more "normal" sized small gun I'd have to agree with the Bobergs. And along that same line is the slightly extended barrel Makarov brought in by Interammo, one of the CGN sponsors. The Mak being actually somewhat smaller than the Boberg.

North American Arms model 1860 ‘The Earl’ in a [small] hand:

As far as barrel length, all short hand-guns are limited to the greater than 105mm Law. A revolver is actually longer than other types such as semi automatic, because their barrel length does not include the chamber; the Boberg is going to be the shortest in that dimension, due to its chamber well behind the trigger. However, over-all I think the Earl is the smallest, given its tiny frame and grip, and the .22WMR/.22LR chambering (as compared to the Bond Arms derringers).

Wouldn't the Bond arms derringers be smaller due to the lack of a cylinder? Wolverine has them on the site, not sure who else carries them.

In length the Bonds are a little shorter. But due to the chamberings they come in the gun itself is much heavier and generally "fatter" than the little skinny NAAs. The Bonds might be a derringer style but they are NOT a small gun by any means.

Like I said, there is a floor limit on barrel length for all types, and yes, the revolvers will be a bit longer because you add the chamber to that; along the length most designs will be quite close, whether it's barrel+cylinder on a revolver, or barrel+grip on a semi. The Boberg XR9 or a Bond Arms Snake Slayer are shorter in that dimension due to less usual designs.

But the Bond Arms are chambered for .45 and .357 Magnum, which require beefier frames and a bit of a sturdier grip, when compared to NAA's .22 offerings. So the over-all feeling of tininess is pretty supreme with the Earl.

I guess I should have phrased that shorter instead of smaller. My bad. The general feeling I got from the OP was a question of OAL.

The Phoenix Arms HP-22A even though it has a full 5" barrel is very small. Its about as close to owning a PPK as we can get up here. I've always wanted a PPK from the time I was a kid and read THE ISLAND, where a father buys his son a PPK which later comes in handy, to the Bond movies. Sad that the idiocy of these barrel length 'laws' is allowed.

OAL is what i was referring to, you are correct.
i really want a snubnose but...ya cant get those here...well at least i cant.

i would jump on one of the compact glocks in 9mm but i dont really like the look of having a silver aftermarket barrel that has to stick out 2" to keep it canadian legal...looks kinda goofy.

there are a few revolvers with a 106 mm barrel but a 4+ inch barrel is hardly a snubbie . Many moons ago we had a 32 S&W short revolver that fit in the palm of my hand with a 3 inch barrel it was a very small lightweight gun but the bullet was twice as heavy as a .22 LR bullet with half the velocity (or less) and it was good to about 10 feet before falling to the ground .

Yeah, the extra barrel kinda makes them silly and pointless IMO. I wouldn't mind checking out one of those Makarovs though. They only needed a hair extra to get by and look alright.

Bottom line is you can purchase the smallest gun in the world as long as the barrel is longer then 105mm, the magazine holds a maximum of 10 rounds, isn't full auto and not on any gov prohibited list. Revolvers are limited the same except for mags and full auto. Hmmm a full auto revolver. Interesting ......
