Its taken long enough but for a 1917 rifle it finally let me hit a nice Fallow doe. About 7am GMT today I was walking through a wooded valley clearing, having already missed 1 muntjac at abot 0620 when I glanced to my right and saw a nice broadside of Fallow. Bucks and does both in season so I lined up on one and wallop. It sprung up as they do and the 125 grain .311 sierra game king found the mark. I tracked it with the aid of the stalker for about 50 yards. I had hit her through the liver and the joint of Heart and lungs. She law in the Rhodedendron bushes breating her weazy last. I paced the shot and it was 40 yards max. About 1/2 the normal here in my local woods. I'll hang and skin her but try and get some pics first. Didnt need my springer who sat it out in the car to track there was so much paint on the leaves and ground!

Wife wouldnt take pics before I skinned it as its hanging now in my garage. Its a 1917 BSA No1 Mk111* converted to sporter in 45 by parker hale. A nice tool I paid £75 for about 10 years ago. I loaded the 125 gn sierra game kings over 44.3 gn of IMR 4895. Its a little cracker I'll post pics of the rifle scoped up later.

This is the load printed at 100 yards. I picked that bullet weight as I have a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 so I figured economy of scale!
I've already salted the hide, Fallow is really nice. I was half way through Tanning 3 bucks from earlier this year as I'm between jobs and you need time to do it right. I had to wait for 2 weeks between jobs to get a start on the tanning.
By the way it entered behind the diaphragm, going slightly forward punched out both lungs before leaving a really decent exit hole. I'll be sticking with that load. I'll post in and out pics tomorrow if I'm sober!

BSA is the one in the middle, the pics a year or two old now and the wall is decorated a lot more!

Yes that is a sound moderator, listed on my licence and to allow follow up shots on vermin, here we can have centre fire moderators for health and safety reasons. Good eh?
