Just got my grandfathers 30/30

Nice Rifle!!!

My wife inherited her great grandfather's 1911 model 94 saddle ring carbine in 30 WCF. The rifle is still in safe working order and after being told I'd be lucky to hit the broad side of a barn at 50 feet with it, I put "wipe-out" in the barrel and the syrup that came out looked like an exploded ball point pen.

That gun groups under 2" at 100 yards. I was totally surprised!

I am not sure, I will have to check back with my father back east to see if he can find one. As for the stock he did an amazing job on it. Doesn't kill my shoulder when I fire it, which is good because now I can teach my lady friend how to shoot something larger than a .22 haha
 
That is great to have a piece of family history like that. The best I got was a .22 my dad bought in the 50s, I love it and use it to teach my boys to shoot on. When I was small my dad sold his guns, my elderly grandmother was afraid I would get at them... Dang.
I don't want to detract from this post but immediately upon reading it I noticed a historical issue. Winchester's model 1894 was introduced in November of 1894 only in .32-40 and .38-55. In the spring of 1895 they introduced two new made for smokeless rounds for the model 1894, the .25-35 and your classic .30-30. There are a number of sites that will tell you the date of manufacture of your rifle from the serial number. I think you have a great piece of family history and I am not trying to detract from the history of it, but it must have been bought the following year.

I had gotten my gunsmith to check the serial on the rifle when he verifyed it and it is an original 1894 and on the original markings on the rifle it says pat Aug 21 1984.

But I can't wait till I have my lil ones so I can teach them to shoot on a .22 I aquired on this site and when they are old enough the model 94.
 
The patent dates should say 1894, they will regardless of when it was made. I am certain it's a model 1894 but it couldn't have been made until at least 1895 in that chambering. Would you mind sending me the serial number minus the last two numbers and I could give you the date of manufacture.
