Hey all,

Well I finally got my rifle in and I thought I would take some pics and show you guys.

It's a Savage 111 30-06 with a Bushnell 3200. I got a friend to help me mount the scope and bore site it today and now, all I have to do is find a place to shoot the damn gun. I am very happy with it and it eems to be a great gun. :)

Date is a day slow on my camera

Yes it's a 3200 3-9x40 scope.

I bought 2 boxes of ammo. One box is Federal Power-Shok 180 grain softpoint and the other is Remington Express Core-lokt 160 grain softpoint. Was basically the cheapest I could find until I am sure it is sighted in.

Can't wait to shot it but I still don't have a place to shoot it yet :(

I've sure heard good things about Savages in the accuracy department. And the venerable old workhorse 30-06 is a round to be reckoned with, so you should be set for some great fun, and even to put a little meat on the table.

Get at 'er.

Thanks all. As I said, I am very happy with it. Took me a bit to figure how everything works on it but I am a quick leaner. :)

Next for me is a 10/22

Congratulations on your new rifle. You first gun only happens once and you will enjoy it. 30/06 is a great caliber - save your brass. You can get a used Lee Loader for 30/06 on ebay for under $20.00, or you might even be able to buy a new one from Lee Precision

These are great little reloaders and will save you the price of the loader with the first three boxes of reloads. Of course you will shoot more.
I would recommend you also get a scale and powder funnel as well.
Inexpensive from Lee. Lee autoprime is nice as well. Check ebay. Watch the shipping charges.

For bullets, 150 grain Hornady spire point (3031) and IMR 4350 for powder,
Winchester or CCI primers. This combination will take coyotes, deer, bear, and moose.
Enjoy your new rifle and welcome to a challenging and fascinating sport.

Looking for a place to shoot in GTA??
I hear rumours that many folks use Jane and Finch as an informal moving targe range...

Gawsh that gun looks familiar! I've got the same exact make/model, good choice  Try a few different types of ammo in yours, I found that mine was most accurate with 150 grain Winchester Super X Silvertips, 1" groups at 100 yards with that stuff!! It also kicks a bit less than the cheap-o 180 grain rounds I tried first time out ;) Enjoy!

^^

Thanks for the tip in bullets. I will try to see if I can find other around here.

I am very happy with the gun. All my friends and myself want to try to shoot it but we are looking for a place and I think I might have found a place just 15 minutes from me.

:)

Wow,

Sounds like a great and interesting story. I hope to be telling a few of those after the upcoming hunting season.

Well I did go to crappy tire today and got some Winchester 150 grain silvertips so I will see how those works out for me.

Then I went to lebarons and I went to buy a cleaning kit. I walked out with the cleaning kit, a box of 500 rimfire hollowpoint shells, a new gun case and of course, a new Savage rimfire. :)

Here are some pics

somebody had a problem with my story... gunnut nazi's

It looks like you are all set up from mice to moose. I have never really looked at the savage .22 semi auto before. Not too shabby. Now you need a shotgun and a lever action to get your collection going. J/K

I prefer the marlin and ruger .22's If a Walmart is conveniently located near you, you can pick up bulk packs of .22 shells (500 or 550 I cant remember how many are in a box) for less than 20 bucks. Named winchester Xpert hollow points or something like that. Some semi-autos dont like hollowpoints and some do.(Jam up) May i reccomend the remington .22 yellowjackets?

Now, you just gotta get into reloading your own shells and you will be set for life!

Give us a range report soon!

I think you will love it. Got a Savage myself about a year and a half ago (300 mag stainless though), but no less the same gun really. Love shooting the thing and didnt take long to work up a sweet load for it. Congrats and welcome to this side of the fence. :D
