Just got my SKS in

Good score! I haven't seen clips in the pouch, sight tools or old oil with mine. Now all you need is all the other models(and crates of ammo):)

I have also noticed she has the free-floating firing pin so I will have to be careful when I go to the range to avoid slam fires.

Lots of people worry about this. All you have to do it make sure the area the pin is in is dry and you can shake the bolt to hear it "tinkle" around in there.

If its a bit slow and klunks a little bit just take your bolt apart and hit it up with some "Braklekeen" , make sure its all good and dry, don't get lube in there. You'll be fine.

Here's the newest addition to my collection, just picked up this weekend
It's a Russian Tula as well and a hell of a lot fun to shoot

Thanks for the information about the stock and the floating pin everyone, the slam fire issue had me worried for a bit but its nice to know that if you keep the pin clean and dry and install it correctly, you'll be fine.

I am just amazed at how easy this SKS is to take apart, I only needed a screwdriver to help take the trigger assembly out. My favorite trick is the trap door in the butt stock for the cleaning kit. Now that is genius.

Anyone know which part of Russia these latest batch of '53 and '54 SKSes came from ?

No one who imports those will tell you. If you want you can ask ROSOBORON EXPORT . They might tell you. There is three other countries that export those except Russia, but those are all connected and they keep their stash. Little hint for all SKS lovers prices will go up soon so pick one up while you can. If you can pick one for 200 or 250. It will be a bargain in the end of 2010.

thanks in advance.

Usually 1952 to 1956. Yearly years refurbished ones should be chromed lined, out of last shipment I had 2 that were 1949 were not chromed lined, other ones were all chromed lined as I requested them all to be that way except 1949 I will take in any condition those are collectible and very hard to find.

Stupid question but does a chrome bore look all shiny and silver when it is cleaned out ? I have never had one before so I do not know what it looks like.
