Just ordered a Sig P229 Stainless elite 9mm

If you don't mind me asking, who'd you get it through? Questar is the only retailer I've seen that does it, check out TSE (who lists the one I mentioned) or P&D, who, IIRC when I was looking, doesn't do it either.

I talked to wolverine early before I ordered from Questar. They said that the stainless elite model 229 is not orderable from the sig distributor in Canada. But the regular elite model is. As for The Shooting Edge those guns they have listed on their website are stainless in the picture but not stainless in actual reality (also read the discription) and they were out of stock anyways when I called there as well earlier in the week. I didn't want an aluminium framed gun so I had to cough up the cash to get one plus I have to wait. I do agree it is not the best of deals having to purchase the barrel for an addition 250+ dollars though.

I paid $1250.00 for my Sig 229 DA/SA in December 2007.
Prices have gone up though our dollar has gained strength.
I never paid for the longer barrel, it was included in the cost along with 2 mags.

I do believe it was part of a run of 90 pistols or thereabouts back then.

Mine came from Al Simmon's gun Shop in Hamilton ON.
I do believe it was Questar who imported them, or one of the larger importers.

Actually Al Simmons has the regular P229 for 1049 bucks right now.

Questar does have to buy the barrels to make them legal.

They are not going to give them for free.

I'm not sure if there is a cost for the registering of a pistol that 'was' prohib. into a restricted....i.e more paper work or verification, etc.

I agree they could do it a little cheaper :)

For what's worth in this topic, I ordered a Sig P229, SAS Generation 2, Two Tone, 9MM, DA/SA, SRT Trigger, SIGLITE Night Sights, Black Polymer Grips from Questar and the price (minus taxes, shipping etc) was $1,394.00 and it includes the 106 mm Sig (factory) barrel. The pistol is listed at $ 1,126.00 so the legal barrel comes to $ 268.00. Not cheap for sure.

It is a Sig. Sig is Value. Sig is Quality. As long as you get both, price is irrelevant

I paid less for pistols, CZ - PARA - IVI - HK Etc. You get Less.

You want Cheap, step down to a glock or a springfield :)

A new Sig is inbound for me. A tad over $1500. Nothing will compare to it.

As long as you're happy , you don't need to convince us on how you spend your money.

I gave up on the Questar love when they sold me two PS90s for 3899 each then 5 months later sold them for 2599 and didn't offer any of the initial buyers any price relief. They were gouging plain and simple. So while I will still buy stuff from them now and then cause sometimes they are the only game in town. I certainly will look elsewhere for deals before I go to them. That is why I checked for a week every place I could think of for this pistol before I broke down and bought it at Questar.

Wow....that would've left some really bad taste in my mouth.

I did a bit of checking on various sites, including GunsAmerica and Sig Sauer, and the average price for a NIB Sig P229 Elite Stainless is $1150USD, which includes a 3.9" barrel (not for use in Canada). So, Questar's price is not too bad given that they have to recoup all the various costs of importing the pistol and make a profit to stay in business.

Paying $268 plus tax for the 106 mm barrel is a bit much and they should give customers a break on this item.

Also, since the Canadian dollar has appreciated steadily against the US dollar and is now essentially at par with it, the prices of recently imported firearms from the US should have fallen, not risen. Canadian distributors buy firearms from the US in US dollars and now they can buy a lot more US dollars with their appreciated Canadian dollars. Ergo, the price of US firearms should be going down, not up. Of course, most distributors and dealers won't lower the price of any US firearms they bought before the Canadian dollar appreciated as they paid more for them at that time.

Nice purchase - you'll love it. I have a P229 Platinum Elite in 9mm, also from Questar. $1,285 + $268 for the Sig Canadian 106mm barrel. It took about 4 months to come in... follow up with Scott who is great to deal with.

I am sure I will love it. I am kinda of surprised that I haven't gotten a confirmed bill yet from Questar. Usually they are on the ball and I get an invoice the next day. That is one thing I will say is awesome about questar. Fast responses to questions and good customer service. Only ever had that one bad experience with them.
