Just ordered my Tavor today the waiting game begins

Ok, so I decided to set the Tavor up for ammo testing / varminter wannabe. Quick release makes everything so much easier.

Note: This is the Tavor with factory rail. There is no Buis. Also the aftermarket ones seem to put the rail more forward so you can keep the Buis. For bigger scopes this is an advantage, but for a scope more suited to this rifle, I think either would work well. Factory one may have an advantage with smaller less eye relief scopes since it's further back.

First off: Yes you can put a higher magnification scope with a 56mm objective on the Tavor. Yes you can put a Harris bipod on it.

The negatives: You will need a scope with fairly short eye relief if it's a large scope. The falcon 4.5-18x 56mm I have works great at high magnification (note the scope is as far out as it will go with the factory rail). But in prone at low magnification the eye relief is too much. You can get away with it off hand but with the bipod in prone you'll have to use higher magnifcation.

The bipod/sling swivel. I put in a stock remington one from a 5R. However I didn't put it all the way flush since it didn't seem right. The swivel goes in but not flush. Canam which swivel/bipod stud is supposed to be used? Anyways it worked as you can see but I quickly removed it.

The cheek weld with the scope is excellent. That being said due to the eye relieve issues, I would consider a smaller scope, maybe the 4-14x 44mm Falcon as a possibility. Ultimately mine will wear the 1.5-5x on a quick release setup so I can swap between a high power, the lower power and either the Eotech or the M21.

Here are the pictures.

I wen out the range today, bot guns functioned flawlessly, I sighted mine in with an eotech 552 mounted. It was really sunny today, and with the glare from the snow I couldn't see ####. The mepro with the blue tint was awesome, except the rail was loose, but i just tightened the bolts.

I didn't get a chance to test the BUIS or sight em in. I love the tavor! I might try removing one of the trigger springs in spring or summer when gopher season starts.

How the #### did you guys mount your sling?

I might actually ditch the eotech and go back to the mepro. A few fudds thought I was at the range with a star trek gun.

All in all I am impressed and will have to do some accuracy testing down the road.

Throttle_monkey... Are you saying the Mepro, which others have been saying "washes out" in the sun, was BETTER than the Eotech 552?

Also, did "the fudds" say stuff like... "Bull-pup rifles are ILLEGAL, what the hell are you doing with that thing?"

And... "10 round mags! Those are ILLEGAL, you HAVE to pin them to 5 for a semi auto centerfire rifle!"

And... "You better NOT get caught by the cops with that SPACE GUN!!!"

HA HA HA! I bet you had a good time "educating" them! Thanks for the mini-range report. I'm hoping you confirm that the Mepro works just fine in bright light...

Cheers

It was so bright outside, I had my eotech on the brightest setting, and could barely see the dot. I will change the batteries to see if it helps. The mepro only washes out in a dark place and you look at something bright. The blue tint really took the glare off of the bright snow.

I like the reticle on the eotech better. Both have
a 1 moa dot, but the outside ring on the eotech is 65 moa. The outer ring on the mepro is much smaller.

I will have to do some load development, the 1:7 twist barrel didn't like the 50gr hollowpoints I had. Maybe I should load up some 69-75 gr shells.

So does anyone know which type of swivel stud is supposed to go in the front for the bipod? The stock Remington one doesn't go in far enough.

I have some 63 grain Ruag ammo that I'm planning on trying in the Tavor. Anyone else tried this combo?

Throttle, Para cord.

I just took some pictures of the Tavor with a Eotech 553, and a Tijicon acog mounted on it.
Soon as I fugure out how to upload them with the new camera, i'll share them.

Nope not yet. Seems like a sailing knot course is going to be in order for hooking up the sling :(.

Lol, if there was another mounting point, we could ditch the string altogether and use the clips on the ends of the sling.

I am dumbfounded by this setup. Or maybe just dumb.

If I were a betting man I would go with the latter:D

Still waiting for more pics bro, your killing me here.

The S.T.A.R 21 or S21 has a better rail for optics. It's higher allowing a proper check weld and extends forward for better eye relief. Has anybody seen one these for sale anywhere? Or something similar.
Canam does not have them and Dlask does not have them.
thanks

I just picked up my Tavor from the Post Office! WHOO HOO! What an awesome little rifle! So non-Restriced & bada$$ it makes every lieberal cry! YA BABY YA!

Now... For the only bummer... In my old age, I have to wear my glasses for the reticle to be crisp... My wife is now calling my reading glasses "Your shooting glasses!"... Ugh...

I can't wait to shoot this thing!

Cheers
