Ok, so I decided to set the Tavor up for ammo testing / varminter wannabe. Quick release makes everything so much easier.
Note: This is the Tavor with factory rail. There is no Buis. Also the aftermarket ones seem to put the rail more forward so you can keep the Buis. For bigger scopes this is an advantage, but for a scope more suited to this rifle, I think either would work well. Factory one may have an advantage with smaller less eye relief scopes since it's further back.
First off: Yes you can put a higher magnification scope with a 56mm objective on the Tavor. Yes you can put a Harris bipod on it.
The negatives: You will need a scope with fairly short eye relief if it's a large scope. The falcon 4.5-18x 56mm I have works great at high magnification (note the scope is as far out as it will go with the factory rail). But in prone at low magnification the eye relief is too much. You can get away with it off hand but with the bipod in prone you'll have to use higher magnifcation.
The bipod/sling swivel. I put in a stock remington one from a 5R. However I didn't put it all the way flush since it didn't seem right. The swivel goes in but not flush. Canam which swivel/bipod stud is supposed to be used? Anyways it worked as you can see but I quickly removed it.
The cheek weld with the scope is excellent. That being said due to the eye relieve issues, I would consider a smaller scope, maybe the 4-14x 44mm Falcon as a possibility. Ultimately mine will wear the 1.5-5x on a quick release setup so I can swap between a high power, the lower power and either the Eotech or the M21.
Here are the pictures.
