Just picked up a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308

Did it come with literature saying it was 1:9" or did you test yours? The SPS Tactical supposedly uses a shortened SPS Varmint barrel...which in .308 is 1:12". And the only place I can find that info online (other than a forum) is a Sniper Central test, and they also say it's 1:12". If you haven't tested yours, please do so we can finally be sure. :)

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177833 -thread has most of the .223 twist rates from major manufacturers. Yes it's 1/9, as shown on the specs page at Remington.com.

For some reason Remington doesn't list the SPS Tacticals specs...or that of any other "Premier Dealer" model.

The guys at Sniper Central are usually pretty on with their reviews/tests, and they show the twist rate as 1:12. The SPS line is all about cutting costs. I can't see Remington using the same barrel from a higher end 700P/LTR on a budget rifle. A shortened SPS varmint barrel would be more likely.

I have a few in stock right now...

Btw... 2550fps Muzzle with GM308M (Federal 168gr Match). Not bad considering Federal advertises 2600fps with a 24" bbl.

I'd say the loss of 50fps is well worth the reduction in weight and length. Many still say that 20" bbl is optimum for .308 Win.

Oh... and 1/2 Moa is the norm, and I'm busting clays at 400m.
