Just received my first non-refurbished SVT-40 bayonet

So that was an SVT-40 bayonet I saw in a pawn shop recently. I wonder if they've still got it. Numbnuts behind the counter didn't even know it was a bayonet.

$120 is what they were asking for. $120 could get me a fair bit of 7.62x54R though, humm.

1940 Tula, downturn bayo (postwar refurb, no date stamp) postwar PPSH-41 Sling (same sling as original issue on SVT-40, just different ink stamp), surplus (never issued) SVT-40 Mag pouch with Soviet stamps on inside and in fantastic condition.

The rifle is a postwar refurb, but the only force matched parts is the bolt/carrier, and the mag (electro-pencilled). Everything else has the same stamped serials. Though not a sniper variant (no notch), once I cleaned the cosmo off, there was a very distinct wear patter in the scope grooves and at the rear top of the receiver. At some point, some soldier had mounted a scope on this in a "field expedient" kind of way.

Haven't gotten to the range yet to test for accuracy. Looks so dang fine I almost don't care if it's minute of barn.

Flipped for $250 (easy) on eBay would buy even more ammo, and put it in the hands of someone who would take care of it. Just sayin ;)

$120! hop on that! I want one soooo bad but, the best I've seen first-hand is $200!
I look at it this way. If you pay that for a non-refurbished bayonet it is an investment that will not go down in price but probably will rise as the number of rifles increase here in Canada. You don't have to worry about a new warehouse being discovered in Eastern Europe with a zillion SVT bayonets and the price plummeting because your bayonet will be one of the rare non-refurbished...

Well said. I have my suspicions that there are a lot of refurb SVT bayos kicking around the east block that just haven't surfaced yet. SVTs were used as parade rifles and military academy rifles in Poland into the mid 50s, as well as some other places. Not much of that inventory has seen the light of day yet.

We are still discovering new info on the SVT's and their usage during and after WW2. We know former Soviet allies were given them after the war. It has been floating around on the net that some or most of the bayonets were melted down for their steel. Is this true or just a rumor? Time will tell. Right now there are six or seven bayonets on US Ebay for sale and all are non-refurbished.

How do you tell refurbs from non refurbs? I have one that looks really new. No serial number or anything on it. And it fits super tight on my rifle. Have to actually push the button home.
Awesome. You should post some pic's for us of the bayo on your rifle if you don't mind:). The refurbs have the scabbard and blade "freshly" blued and the belt loop is of "new" construction. The non-refurbs will have wear all over the scabbard and bayonet with either a worn fabric belt loop, a worn leather belt loop, or none at all. Here's a link to other bayonet's for sale on Ebay:

Here's an example of a refurbished bayonet:

And here's an example of a polished bayonet:

The Polished Bayonets you are referring to were made in the 50 for various drill companies. Some are polished some are plated, the once re-done in Poland will have blond beech wood handles

Ugh, I get to pay more for a bayonet than I did for the rifle.
That gets a sacastic hooray!
The only benefit of being a history buff and firearms collector, is that your bank account never gets large enough to draw much attention.
Nice find! When do these hit the market? I hate haggling on ebay!

Contact Corwin Arms on here. I think I heard they have some coming in but am not sure...

We will still keep a question mark on them if they are coming.

Lets say for the polished plated once would anyone be interested? We can source few shape would be good

Just got this one off of Ebay from Bulgaria. Bit pricey at $245US but worth it I think. I say this because I've seen two refurbed bayo's for sale in Canada for $250CAN each. This will be my third...
