My buddy and I went out this morning and put up a new target stand, it's at 600 yards. It's a bit of a chore to get in here, but worth it. We've been shooting down here since last year. The target board was 700 yards, because that was the only tree available. We wanted a clean 600 yard target, so we built a tri pod 14 feet tall. I didn't get a close up pic, but took one through the scope.

Our firing line is a platform on top of a first growth stump. The stump is ~11 feet across, 6 feet tall, so it works well.

You can see the swamp we have to hike through, and this was on a good day.

The shooting could have been better:p, but it was a long night loading last night. I had 41 cases in the loading block before I dumped #42 on top of them, so I had to start over and it was already 11pm. I don't like to rush my loading but you do what you gotta do. This is a 10 shot group with my .223, the grid is 1x1.

And I can't make a post without including a picture of my favorite rifle :D.

we have a very similar set up. except mine is chambered in 300RUM with same AI 2.0 and mystic.
hope you enjoy the rifle!

Ok, here's more; :D

This is why we set this up, our other range is a little hard to get to. This pic is from last November, it took me two hours to drive 10 kms, but I did it at least every other weekend. This is at 1500ft, the 600 yard range is at 180 feet elevation. Less snow for year round shooting.

This pic includes my buddies out of the box 5r in .308, I've got one too but it's hard to carry more than one rifle down here. Him and his gun/ammo are a sub moa combo all day. Shooting his gun is the reason I bought my own.
My new Bushnell 1300 yard range finder is there too. That thing is awesome. I used it 2 weeks ago to shoot 1000 yards across a lake, and the suggested moa was within .5, I used a .308 ballistic table. The Kestrel is pretty handy too.;)

And no, we don't share the mat, :), his gun is there for the picture only...

This pic includes my 5r that sadly gets left out. The picture is at our other spot sometime last summer.

This is another pic down range. The new 600 yard stand is on the left, the 700 yard is on the right hanging in the tree.

Enjoy

Monk, that stock is a Bell & Carlson, I believe it's a Medalist, Tactical. It's a great stock, I prefer it over the AICS on the .223. It will be under the .223 soon, but both guns are bedded so it's more than a straight swap.

Im on the north island ... I thought it was hard to find a place to shoot long range. You guys are hard up lol. Looks like fun though ! Nice rigs :)

If i may ask, was the stock a local purchase or online? If so what site?

Cheers, Monk.

Wow, thread revival. I love it :)

@ Warbird; hey Thomas, we can go again. I've taken a couple weeks off from shooting, Christmas rush and all with my new granddaughter :) but I'll blow the dust off my guns after Christmas. The pic with all the snow is where I took you. That's what it'll be like right now.
Did you get some glass for the CZ?

@ Jerry; thank you, I can't tell you how impressed I am with the pod. It's genius. I'm noticing the groups starting to open so we'll talk soon, different throat this time. The 80s are so much easier to load. ;)
The bugs here are impressive :) , in the spring and summer, they'll carry you away.

@ rollie; thank you, I've spent a lot of time looking for spots and it's harder than you'd think. I've learned to think outside the box. GoogleEarth is a great tool. The only problem with this spot is 1000yds, it's not there, it would put the target stand in a gulley. If I move the firing line back, it's in a gulley. I'm working on another spot right now, but I need a cartopper boat :).

@ Monk; I bought the stock from another nut in the EE. I believe Jerry can supply one for you.... CALLING JERRY !!!

Thanks all

What scope / power are you using?

Hi ghost, my .223 wears a Sightron 10-50x60. It's a great scope that I bought from Jerry. My .308 has a Bushnell 6500 Tactical 4.5-30x50. As much as I like the Sightron, I prefer the turrets on the Bushnell. The Sightron has 1/8 adjustments and IMO is a better scope, I just don't like the turret caps.

@whitetailbuck; thank you, now go shooting. I'll meet you out there. ;)
