So I got to take my xmas present to the range and here is what I found.

I couldn't clean it to my liking before I took it too the range as I couldn't get the action out of the stock. The trigger is excellent, very little take up and clean breaking at about 2-3 pounds. The safety works but is really mushy and needs a good cleaning. The stock is nice but really soft. The bolt is binding with the stock and the stock needs to be inletted further (pics to follow.)

I mounted a Bushnell 5-15 that I had sitting around in s**tty rings (cheap Bushnell.) The range was a little cold -10 and I fired 40 rounds getting the scope zeroed at 100m. Once the scope was zeroed (or close enough) I put 20 rounds into the target from 100m sitting at a bench and using a bipod.

This last target started out well until my front ring loosened off. When I noticed the fliers I tried to tighten the rings to the bases and ended up stripping the front mount even though I only hand tightened it:mad: I did find that it was pretty difficult to chamber a round, the action seems really tight.

I am pretty happy with the accuracy of this gun as I bought it to shoot surplus with and it seems to perform well with Czech. I cleaned it tonight and was able to get the action out of the stock without any problems. There is a lot of cleaning to do and I am looking forward to working on this puppy over the winter to see what it will do. I think that a really good cleaning and a bedding job and stock refinishing are in order.

Here are a few pics from after I gave it a attempted quick cleaning. I found this to be the hardest Norc long gun to clean, I have the 5.56 and the 2007 M-14.

Any questions drop me a PM and may you have a Happy New Year with lots of new toys and many rounds down range.

Nice report Thanks. When I degreased (deoiled) mine I made sure to clean out all the threaded holes with brake cleaner and then use blue loctite on the screws.I think Ganderite said his scope mounts where loose so I didn't want to run into that problem. Also my mounts were machined badly.Lots of burs and bent ends.A file fixed them up.
I like to use a head mounted magnifying lens to check things over closely before putting them back together. The mounts appear to be a direct Weaver copy as I had a number 44 laying around and it fit the two holes perfectly on my rifle, also had to swap one mount end for end to have them line up. Still haven't found a scope to mount so no range time yet.

When I first got mine a month and a half ago, there was a lot of cleaning to do. Also I had to go around the whole rifle tightening all the screws on it. Definately not a purchase then stop and shoot it before you bring it home item. Never got a chance to sight mine in properly because of the weather, but I'm impressed with your results. Dialing mine in more now does'nt seem like it's going to be so bad after seeing your target.

Ya its their idea of cosmo/rust proofing.Works, got no rust on mine. But it does have a weird smell to it so use rubber gloves when cleaning these pretties as it lingers quite awhile on your hands.Happy New Year All.

Got mine in tonight, Had to try it out so needless to say that my hands are going to stink like cosmoline for a couple of days....

I just ran a couple of snap caps through the still cosmo'd action and it worked perfectly, It wouldn't really throw the snap cap when ejecting but thats probably cause the little plastic thing was sticking to the cosmo...

Good luck with your purchase.I just had to replace my scope mounts as the weaver rings would not clamp tight enough causing them to rattle if shaken. Not good for shooting thats for sure. I used weaver number 45 bases(bolted right in place no problem). They gave me some extra height for my scope clearance as well.Still haven't been to the range yet. Oh how bad was your bore for yuckies when you cleaned it.

I havent done my bore yet, I just looked it over and went to bed (I get off work at 10), but I took a gander down the bore and I don't really see much of anything, there is some clumps of cosmo at the end but other than that its very clean...

I guess the new batch has removeable scope mounts. Mine are "integral" to (part of) the receiver. Not removeable, but won't loosen either.

So i did some more cleaning, going to try and finish it up later tonight if my meeting doesn't take too long. My stock is good, really no dings except for one that is right near the buttplate and a little kinck out of the butt plate where that ding is, so it got dinged after the rifle was assembled. Cosmo is really thick on this gun and hard to get off, almost glue-stick consistency. Took the bases off to clean, on there pretty tight so I don't think they would have moved if I mounted a scope on right away. Oh and I do have to say the checkering isn't all the greatest on these, mine did look good from a distance but when you feel it it is really rough. And did anyone else notice in the manual it said good for shooting wallabies and kangaroos? haha.

I used brake cleaner and a small toothbrush to take off the wicked oil/sludge mixture.Just remember to wear rubber gloves and spray it outside. Also don't forget to reoil the firearm when done. This is how you really get to know your JW 103

Ok so i got the whole thing cleaned out and everything now. My barrel wasn't really rusty at all (there were a couple little spots in there but I couldn't tell if they were surface rust or goopy cosmoline) so it cleaned out very easily. Everything fit back together well except my mag release is kind of crooked, that is the only way I can fit it so it can actually release the mags (not a big deal but still) and can anyone else pull on the front of an inserted mag and make it move backwards?

Oh and funny story we were watching an old news report in social class about african gun trade and how norinco just bought 2 iron mines in africa in trade for ak's, and I guess these iron mines really exploit slave labor. I had to pipe up and say I own 2 of there rifles lol.
