Cheap Simmons rings that came with a .22 mag scope, and a cheap ncstar 4x30 compact scope like this http://www.amazon.com/NcStar-4X30-Compact-Scope-SC430B/dp/B00079PG2Q
I'm using a Buckner rimfire scope that came with dovetail rings, which just clears the bolt handle. With the scope sitting as low as possible you still need a sizable cheek riser for a good weld. The cantilever mount posted above would require an even taller cheek riser to work.
Yes,surprisingly enough,scoping it does require a high mount to clear the bolt movement.I really would like to use this one without a scope,because it carries a lot nicer but my eyes just don't work with iron sights anymore ,even a ghost ring isn't as good as a scope and I can't get around that.Funny when you get older and can afford what you want-you can't shoot it.
Since this will be a casual plinking/small game rifle,I'll probably opt for the same scope on my regular length JW15,a Bushnell dusk to dawn fixed 4x shotgun/rimfire scope,the circle reticule is ideal for small game,it fits a rabbit head perfectly and the heavier outer crosshairs is ideal for shooting in the brush.50 yard parallax too.
Another thing I noticed between shooting the long barrel version of the JW15 and the short barrelled version is the sound is appreciably louder in the short barrel,even when using 'quiet' 22 shells.

I used a set of inexpensive low mount rings that were kicking around the parts bin. The Simmons 22mag 4x fixed scope sits nice and low and the bolts clears the rear bell.
The supplied Simmons rings worked also but I prefer the look of these….
Thanks,I had to use a set of high mount rings because the bell on Bushnell banner dawn to dusk shotgun/rimfire scope was over the bolt,(as is the compact type scopes I tried)I can see on yours (thanks for posting pictures) the bell was further to the rear,enabling the use of lower rings..what I was trying to use was a short compact scope,but to get the bolt to clear,it had to be mounted too far ahead,which was why I was wondering if a short straight tube would work....
Did you switch stocks on that one ? I find absolutely no reason or rationale for the ban on cutting a barrel shorter than 18''when the factory can do it...the obvious question is,how can you tell ,if a barrel matches factory specs?its not beyond the realm of possibility to buy a rifle with a barrel cut to factory length,which was illegal but have no way of knowing it....

The good news is I found the right scope for my JW15 compact -right in my own gun cabinet! - an old Bushnell.22 4x28 varmint scope,only 7 1/2 '' long .The bad news is it's not made anymore....I'm going to post a 'wanted' ad under optics and see what turns up...

actually got to take mine out today... I'm blind with the iron sights. 25m and I was all over the place. I'm going to need a scope for sure.
I have both the JW15 regular length,as well as the JW15 short barrel,iron sights and the regular length one has a Bushnell Dusk to Dawn 4x shotgun/rimfire scope with the circle reticle ,and the difference is appreciable,the scoped one is right on the button.If I can't get another Bushnell 4x28 varmint scope,I'm going to take it off my JW 23 22 magnum and put it on the backpacker,the compact scope looks good on it.
Got back into town and went to the post office to pick mine up. Does anyone know how to remove the front sling mount so I can put a swivel stud mount on it so I can install a biopod. I know if i turn the entire front sling mount the whole thing comes out, all I want to remove is the actual ring the sling clips into.

They are one unit, I replaced mine with some Uncle Mike's studs I bought off of Amazon; happily they are the same thread so thy just screw in.

I'd be interested if the short barrelled version is more accurate than the longer barrelled versions...not that it's going to make much difference at the ranges I typically shoot at,under 50 yards.Minute of grouse head is mainly what I'm interested in and that's rarely over 25 yards.For longer range shooting I'd take my NS522 with a better scope.
Funny,trying to locate compact scopes has been more of a challange than I thought it would be.Lots of stuff for attaching to rails and enhanced electronics,but what I wanted was a plain,4x scope with a small bell,such as the 7 1/2'' long 4x28 rimfire varmint scope Bushnell used to make...I see the odd one on E bay but they're all in the US....why there are import/export restrictions on stuff like this defies any logic when the same product is freely available,not restricted and legal on both sides of the border...what's next,slingshots?pea shooters?the problem is getting the beurocrat bean counters to remove rediculous laws once they are on the books

I pried mine off with pliers and then had to clean up the hole with a drill because it had some material blocking it. Or you could do what others have said and buy new ones.
