I am looking for someone who has an intact K31 clip (not the mag, the clip) that I can measure up. My goal is to try making some new ones with 3D printing to enable loading from a clip instead of singles while not destroying the fragile and rare originals.

Thanks,
Mark

Are you looking to emulate the original sheet metal and cardboard ones or the newer, aftermarket plastic ones?

I have the originals if you need one.

The surplus store in NE Calgary has plastic K31 clips that you can mar up to avoid messing up your originals. I've used them and they seem to work fine

I was only aware of the metal/cardboard ones, hadn't seen the aftermarket plastic ones. The plastic ones would probably be fine for me and will save me the effort of making my own.

Name of this store? Or another source for the plastic clips?

Thanks,
Mark

Things military, the cardboard ones are alot more durable than people give them credit for, and are reasonably priced on eBay

I agree, the originals are more durable than probably designed to be, but they are also getting harder to find and more expensive to purchase.

How do the plastic ones fare?

I haven't been able to find any originals for under $25/ea and I don't know anyone with a 3d printer to make the ones I've found on places like thingiverse. Instead, I have been using Mosin-Nagant clips as a stop-gap measure. They are not perfect, but they tend to work better on my K11 than they do on my Mosin :p

I'd like to have 8-10 of them at least and that starts to add up on fleabay, especially with shipping costs these days. I can print them for pennies, or buy the plastic ones to try.

I never looked on thingiverse, I figured this was way too obscure. I guess I better go take a look...

Thanks for the video, I will see if I can scare up some Mosin clips to try as well.

I was selling 3D printed ones for a while here on the EE, based on a combination of features from the originals and aftermarket plastic ones. They are a pain to model for sure. Tension on the cartridges and plastic thicknesses are tricky. The aftermarket ones work pretty decent all the same

I don't know the first thing about 3d printing, but I assume different plastics have different qualities? I wonder if there is a more "flexible" plastic that could be used?

Tried both plastics, Printed a few at .1, .15, and .2mm resolution, not much luck with any of em. PETG held up a bit better but wasn't as stiff and didn't retain the cartridges as well. PLA is better but the tabs will snap off quicker. I ended up modifying and removing the tabs and used the body of the clip to provide the tension. Nylon might work if your machine will print it

This is why I started with the design that is closer to typical stripper clips. The box type ones are too finicky on keeping tension on the tabs to retain the cartridges and the tabs are delicate when printed with the usual garden variety materials.

Might try adding brass shim stock on tabs glued with resin. The original used tin reinforcement on tabs with shellac for glue(?).

I ried to print te V2 version but my filament had QC issues. Diameter inconsistences caused feeding issue.
Known issue with that lot number.
Will try with different brand,
