K31 rear sight question

recently acquired a nice K31 and some GP11. must say I love it, never worked a bolt that smooth and positive and I have owned 2 mausers.

anyways, on to the question. I am going to go shoot it tomorrow, and I don't want to waste too much ammo.

how do I start to sight it in? I know to put the rear sight at its lowest, marked 1(I am assuming 100m?)

however, underneath the leaf is a small non blued round item with 4 numbered marks on it. It turns and I am assuming it raises and lowers for more precise control of the elevation zero? I cannot find anything about it on the internet. Is it like the front sight for an AR-15 and similar?

Like I said, I don't want to totally waste ammo and help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

oh, PS, I hear that its a centered hold for 100 and 200m, but a 6 oclock hold for 300+? is this true?

any other tips?

Most likely you have the Girex adjuster.

Rear sight notch must be moved in direction you need it to go.
If your shots are low, raise the rear sight.

The Girex only adjustable for height, not windage. See table.

Not everyone see it the same way, otherwise different sight adjustments and front sight blades wouldn't be needed.

it's SUPPOSED to be a dead center hold at 100m with GP11, but don't hold your breath on that.
And yes on 6 o'clock hold at 300m. and longer

Let me know how it went.

Always check the action screws before shooting, they loosen up on old rifles and with humidity and temperature changes of the stocks.

my mistake, it is the Girex Super, I didn't scroll down far enough, shooting buddy was at the door and the dog was going nuts! :)

rifle shoots great, really like it. that bolt is amazing! so smooth and fast to operate, so positive, no guessing if its locked in or not. with some practice I was able to eject all my spent brass into my rifle case :)

rifle shoots better than I do as of now, mostly due to my starting to fail eyes. I can easily shoot clays at 110m with this rifle. I did adjust that Girex thing down a few turns to zero it. It still shoots a couple inches left at 110, but I hear you can drift adjust the front sight?

the action screws were fine, I did that ahead of time just to be sure.

Not a free-floated barrel in the current sense. The very fore end of the stock is a bearing surface. We never loosen the stocks in swiss competition shooting.
