K98 qualify as all matching?

Purchased my second K98 from the Calgary show on Easter weekend. It has 9024 serial on everything aside from the front and rear barrel band which are unnumbered. Is this normal? or is it a case of replaced parts? Will post pics as soon as I can.

There are variations with unnumbered bands, but they accompany other parts being unnumbered and always follow a pattern. If it's earlier then 1944 it's not correct though as a guideline.

As I mentioned the bands appear to be unnumbered/absent of markings, unsure if these were milled/shaved off at one point or if they were skipped because of wartime production.

Does the stock match the rifle? I think it would be numbered in the barrel channel at that point. The stock markings and colour look much like Norwegian stock. Maybe a restored sporter?

If the stock isn't matching the bands definitely won't. I'd bet replacement stock and bands like Mike said. Would likely be a restored sporter.

ar43 would have been numbered throughout. And armourer replaced bands would have been numbered. You can see the rifle is likely an earlier ar43 as the barrel is 42 dated.

Wartime expediency did not affect serial numbering until mid 44 when the sight parts were dropped, then late 44 for bands.

In fairness, an RC mixmaster with a bent bolt is a $750+ gun now. I do think the OP overpaid, but not drastically so. It's not like there are any deals at gunshows anymore... lol.

Good point. From what I've seen thought unless it's matching it seems to sell for RC prices. But I'll agree this is a far nicer rifle.

Probably not a horrible price. 950 for a stock/bands mm is probably pretty inline with what they've been selling for recently. Not 20 years ago pricing but reasonable given today's market.

Appreciate all your help fellas, I'll try my best to cut my losses at a show this upcoming weekend and If I don't manage to sell it I'll keep it as a shooter, Bore looks unfired.

I know you are after matching, this is pretty close and worlds better then RC. Use it as a placeholder.

My man, at my local Canadian Tire they have a brutal condition RC K98k for the same price. You could have done better, granted, but you could have worse. Like CanadianAR said, keep it until you find something better.

Don't get in a rush. Above posters have suggested keeping it until a better one comes along. I'll chime in and say the same. :)
